I'm helping a friend try to recover her Gmail account. She contacted me when she couldn't get to her email because of a password issue. When someone set up her account, they used her landline phone as the recovery method. Apparently, Google only sends text codes for recovery which she can't get on her landline. I tried searching for recovery methods but each one pretty much put me back into the Google account recovery loop with no results because of the password issue and no cell phone or email recovery means.

I set her up with a new Google account, with appropriate recovery avenues, and she is in the process of setting up contacts and is able to send and receive email. We would like to recover the account because she has some photos in some of the emails she would like to have. She wasn't aware that she should have downloaded the photos to save them on her computer. Does anyone know of a way to contact Google (phone or email) to see if we can get some assistance? Or is this pretty much a lost cause?

Hi Robert, where are you doing this from? Is the comp at the exact location when the gmail account was setup?
Gmail will be trying to ensure your location as the account holder.
I don't know whether you have followed the insructions in the link above as it seemed the appropriate help area to me.

    RL,
I have followed the instructions at the link you provided no less than half a dozen times - got kicked off once for too many attempts. We live in a retirement community and we have been confined to our apartments for the past 6 weeks. I have tried recovering the account from her computer (where the account was set up) using Team Viewer and also from my computer as well. The result is the same. The only recovery option that Google sees is the landline phone of hers which can't handle text messages. I tried using my email address as a recovery option. Google sends a code to my email but when I enter the code I get a message that it is nice that I could confirm receipt of the email but Google doesn't recognize the email address as an authorized recovery avenue.
I gave up on using Google's account recovery procedures and that is why I started looking for some way to contact Google to see if we could get some help there.

    RL,
All of the links eventually get you back to the Google Account Recovery page which is where I started. In some further searching, I found this link with over 100 comments by people experiencing the same problem - landline as the only avenue of recovery - with no resolution - https://support.google.com/accounts/thread/7485236?hl=en
I found several links that provided phone numbers but others that warned that Google did not respond to Account Recovery issues via phone and most of the phone numbers one finds are to "Tech Support" scams.
I think I will pull the plug on this one. Thanks a lot for your help.

No luck at the ...5787... number. The answering machine indicates it is Google Cloud and asks for a support PIN. Can't do anything without that.

I hope I don't lose my smartphone as landlines won't help much.
Google security is over the top. Sorry I haven't been much help.

You were a lot of help. You provided several avenues for me to try that I hadn't located. I feel better now knowing that I have researched it about as much as I could.

I have just found out that Firefox version 76 won't allow me to view my saved Passwords unless I sign in to my Firefox account! Another security measure probably due to the Covid19 use of Zoom!
Previous versions of Firefox still allow you to view your Passwords as I found by checking in my other comps.
Something new for Mozilla users to worry about as Mozilla have linked with Google.

Probably you seen this? The phone number I used on my old account is a landline that is no longer accessible to me.

    From a linked Google article:

Arie - I hadn't seen either of the specific links you provided. I have seen many similar. The recommendations in the first link seem to circle back to the Google Account Recovery page which I have been through numerous times. One needs a recovery cell phone number for receiving texts or a recovery email address - neither exists. Only the landline number which will not receive texts.
I think the second link that you pasted pretty well sums up our situation now.
My friend has reconciled that the desired photos are probably gone for good but the ones she can recall she will request the sender to resend those. She is happy with the new account which has both recovery methods in the settings.
Added: She has been instructed on how to download photos from email.
    Thanks for the input.
