I have been using a drive imaging program for a few years called Active Disk Image. As long as I was using only mechanical hard disks, everything was fine but I have discovered the hard way that images restored to an SSD boot drive will not boot. I consistently get an error that the computer has run into a problem and nothing I can do gets me past that.

So here's what I need in a drive imaging program:
    • Runs in Windows on a schedule
    • Will save a user-specified number of images
    • Will image and restore from and to SSD
    Recommendations?

Alex - Acronis True Image 2020 should tick all your boxes. I've used it for many years on conventional hard drives and for the past 4-5 years on SSD's.

Thanks, I also used it for a few years. I don't remember why I switched to ADI. I'll take a look.

My problem at this point is that the restores I have been doing to my boot SSD (that were also made from that same SSD) are failing to boot.

Have you used ATI in that scenario and if so, what was your result?

No. I used Active Disk Image to image the entire disk and store the image on an external hard disk. The image was created while in Windows. I then used an ADI boot disk to restore the image to the SSD.

This process has always been successful when going from SSD to SSD or from magnetic to magnetic but does not work when going from magnetic to SSD.

I finally got the transfer done by running the image creation from an ADI boot disk instead of from Windows.

My "rule #1" when it comes to drive or disk imaging: NEVER from within Windows!
