Hopefully my last Win7 issue prior to upgrading to Win10.... My computer has started to often either not wake up from sleep mode or it wakes up enough to turn the color of my monitor power button to blue but the interface remains inactive and the screen blank. The odd thing is that when I am forced to press the desktop power button but to hard stop, it goes off immediately, instead of waiting the usual 4 seconds. Does that symptom lead me to a possible solution?

    Thanks guys!! Larry

Sounds like the OS is not operational if you can switch off instantly.

But it is only when the wake up functions stalls, normally the 4 sec hold is fine.

What do you do to 'Wake up' your comp?
    What is your 'Sleep' setting?
BIOS should control the normal 4-6 seconds of a Hard shut down.

    1. I press a key to wake it up
    2. Turn off display- 10 mins, put to sleep- 15 minutes
    3. BIOS- right. Normally. just not on this stalled Wake Up situation.

    Thanks.

    How old is the PSU?
You may even have a faulty motherboard.

    Hi,

Try performing a Clean boot in Windows and see if the computer can wake up from sleep mode without crashing.

Hi, last night it happend again. I have never actually witnessed the moment the freeze up occurs. I assumed that it was when it would go to sleep but I realized that I don't really KNOW that. Changed my Power Options to Sleep in 1 minute to test this out and it went to sleep and woke 10x properly. Hmmm.

Next, I went into Event Viewer to look around and I did find an unexpected fatal crash last night. What I found in the System Event Viewer was that 30 seconds before the freeze up, it went into sleep mode. Right about at the time it froze was a Warning entry "Event 1014: DNS Client Events" further stating "Name resolution for the name dns.msftncsi.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded." No more entries until this morning so I assume (again) that it froze as a result/

I don't know if it matters but about 10 minutes before it went into Sleep mode, there were 3 identical Errors, all stating:

    Log Name: System
    Source: Schannel
    Date: 2/21/2020 7:51:58 PM
    Event ID: 36887
    Task Category: None
    Level: Error
    Keywords:
    User: SYSTEM
    Computer: ZPC-C5Z87-GF65
    Description:
The following fatal alert was received: 80.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Not sure what is causing the sleep issue. But I would perform a clean boot and see if that helps to rule out a software program that is interfering with the sleep mode not working at random times.

I will do a clean boot tonight so it can go into sleep mode and any other dark places while I am in sleep mode.

Regarding the Event Tracker link, it talks about Active Directory (sounds dangerous in the hands of the uninitiated) but I cannot even find it they way it is described.
