With the understanding that all was good to go I attempted a Win 10 Pro installation on my household desktop today. The Win 10 install screen indicated that my Processor wasn't up to the task as it lacked NX capability.

    My home built setup:
    Windows 7 Pro
Asus P8Z68-V LX motherboard with LGA 1155
    Intel i5-2500K 3.30 GHz
    Western 500 GB SSD
    12 GB DDR3
    2-500GB HDs
I use the SDD for the operating system only. One HD is for programs and the other for data.

Do In need to replace the processor, the motherboard, or both? Recommendations?

I would suggest you try the install with only 1 (one) hard drive connected, The SSD with your OS on it should be the one.

If your CPU supports NX (no execute bit), you may still need to enable the NX feature in BIOS in order to pass the Windows 10 CPU Compatibility check.

It is usually shown in the 'Advanced Configuration' menu (or similar), though every BIOS is different, so the heading may also be different. Also note that the NX (no execute bit) can have multiple names in a BIOS, including EDB (Execute Disabled Bit), Execute Disabled Memory Protection, EVP (Enhanced Virus Protection), and No Execute Memory Protect.

If no setting in the bios for NX (or similar) check the motherboard manufacturer for bios updates.

Okay. I'll try those actions. I did some research and I'm not sure Asus still supports the MOBO. It's old, like me.

It's EDB in this BIOS and it was currently enabled. So I will check to see if Asus still supports this board. The BIOS says the MOBO was manufactured in 2011.

This CPU has Execute Disable bit support (See Intel specs)

Last BIOS for your Asus board is version 4105 from 2013/07/23, available from Asus.

The Execute Bit function is enabled according to the Bios program. I did download the 1405 BIOS Version from Asus and unable to unzip it.

The screen message that popped up during my attempted Win 10 install reads: This PC's processor doesn't support a critical feature (NX). Yet the BIOS and Intel show that my processor do.

I'm sure the next step is to upgrade my current BIOS but, I'm not sure how to proceed with that.

I was able to make the BIOS update to Version 1405 which is the latest. I was at least able to begin the Windows 10 installation. However the installation quits at 27% of the Win 10 updates, undoes all of the changes done to my computer, and reverts the computer to Win 7 Pro. I'm puzzled.

If you've reserved a copy of Windows 10 via the Get Windows 10 App, it'll check your compatibility for you. Right-click the Get Windows 10 App in the taskbar and click on “Check your upgrade status." Click on the Settings in the upper left-hand corner of the app and click on “Check your PC."
Have you used this check yet?

I've tried but haven't been successful using the check your PC recently. I did when Win 10 was first released and passed the checks then. That's what prompted me to try this in the first place. Other than replacing to C: drive with a larger SSD I haven't been inside a computer since I built this one 8 years ago.
Here is the latest message with my most recent Win 10 installation attempt:

    0x8007042B-0x2000D
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation.

I wonder if I shouldn't get a new mother board, processor, and the memory to go with it. Recommendations in the ATX form factor?

I'm not sure of what completely clean means. A legal copy? I have all of the updates installed and this computer backs up a system image every week. There are no third party virus programs, just the stuff that comes with Win 7. I do have CCleaner , MalwareBytes, Super Anti Spyware, and Revo Uninstaller on this machine. There two accounts on this machine. That which I use everyday and an Administrator account that is password protected.
I quickly browed the link you posted, retiredlearner, and I will completely read it this evening.

If you uninstall MalwareBytes, SAS, Ccleaner and Revo and see if it installs W10 - you can reinstall them afterwards. Also all unnecessary peripherals should be disconnected.
During the install Windows Defender takes care of the comp.
You can always disconnect your internet connection if you are installing from the MCT and ISO with DVD or USB Thumb drive.

Okay. The install seems to get Win 10 installed but, gets tripped up during the update phase. Windows update indicates the install failed because anti-virus/malware programs prevent that. So, if I uninstall all the ant-virus/malware programs and disconnect from the internet I can get a good installation? Then I can reconnect the internet, install the updates, and then CCleaner, Malwarebytes etc, later?

I uninstalled all the security, anti-virus, and malware programs. Disconnected from the web, and disconnected all drives except C:. We tried installing and keeping the files and failed. Then it was not keeping anything on the drive and again failed. Both times the installation failed in the first_boot phase with an error during Boot operation. I guess I'm done with this. There's a processor and mobo in my future.
Much thanks to everyone who gave of their time and knowledge to help me out. I truly appreciate it. I'm not sure if I should make this thread solved or just let it die.

    What I would try:

    1. Backup all personal data and files to another drive.
    2. Reset the existing Windows 7 to very first install if have a disk image or wipe drive & install Win 7.
    3. Install all hardware drivers, don't add any software.
    4. Install Win 10 with just one drive connected, Internet disconnected.
    5. Build up from there.

Hi boyracer. You can also try backing up all your data and following the instructions in this link to perform a clean install of Windows 10, Perform a clean install of Windows 10.

Make sure you remove all the partitions on the SSD and install Windows 10 fresh and see if it installs successfully.

I think I may have hit on the reason for my problems. On December 8, 2019 a syndicated newspaper computer columnist, Steve Alexander, received a question from a reader with the same problem I'm having. An older system that was supposed to be compatible with Win 10 build 1511. Like me, the reader waited and now Win 10 build 1909 will not work on older systems such as mine. I can't update to an old Win 10 version that works, yet I cannot load the current build.
So, what I have done is purchase a new motherboard, processor and fan, and compatible memory. The parts are here and I'll install them after the holidays.

Ok sounds good. Is there anything else I can assist you with or would you consider this issue resolved?
