jholland1964, my thanks for your detailed note, most appreciated. I carried out check list and checked entry for downloads, shows C:\Users\rob\Documents\Downloads.

That means your downloads are NOT going to the desktop, your downloads are going to Documents>Downloads
So they will not appear on your desktop. Go to the File Explorer, open it, choose Documents and you will find the download folder you evidently created. You know there IS already a Download folder in File Explorer I presume? If you open that folder it is likely you will find your downloads in there. In order to have them go to the desktop you have to designate that using the earlier picture from my previous reply to you. You would hit the change button and then choose Desktop.

Appears to be the case. I have now knowing what to do, changed Documents to Desktop\Downloads. I will have to wait until my next visit to the Net for a software download. I now know of what is required. Your help was definitely appreciated, thank you. Only remains for me to locate the Cache and Bookmarks referred by Mr Bill.

My thanks again for your help, in this case never carried out this procedure or even heard of it. It would be interesting in hearing how many more people are like me.

I have done this many times Bobby as have most people I am sure. It is a very common practice, especially when you have some sort of problem visiting a web site. Every web site saves data from their web site on your browser each time you visit. Every time means that eventually the saved data is old, outdated and may cause problems. So it should be removed so the browser works correctly when you go to a web site. This can be and is done with all browsers from time to time. Nothing unusual about it.

Mine is cleaned daily. I was in a computer club for years and this is one of the first things taught to people. Clean your cache and make sure you have your windows update turned on. And when a program itself offers an update, do it.

This happened when you reinstalled Windows 10, very normal. I have to join MrBill and retiredlearner, you more frequently than other users. When you do this then you also generally will have to reset all of your various preferences to however you desire. EDGE is part of Windows 10 so it WILL also reinstall, pretty much go back to the way it was when you first got Windows 10. There really is no reason to do this many reinstalls and it is very rare that an error relating to the internet would require a complete reinstall of the operating system. Generally an internet problem can be fixed with a shut down and restart of the router or a simple shut down/reboot of the computer.

I agree in what you say in your current Posting. However, I admit that I have not the same knowledge of Windows 10 workings as you three gentlemen, therefore I take the easy option and in my case, and refer to reinstall windows 10 which is much easier than it was 10 years ago, when it was a real pain. My age is against me for thinking out solutions when they arise. I too realise, that I depend on the good nature of Windowsbbs members like you three gentlemen and that perhaps indeed that I have turned into a nuisance. .

Bobby, what you don't realize is generally a solution will be much quicker and probably easier than reinstalling the operating system. You certainly are NOT a nuisance, the whole point of a forum like this is to ask questions, consult with your friends when you have a problem. We all are your friends and that is what friends are for and by the way, I am not a gentleman...my name is Judy.

BobbyScot. Glad you have it taken care of. jholland1964 is a female. She is good at what she does. I have been on a couple of different message boards with her for probably 15 years or more.

Judy, I did not realise that you are of the fair sex. I will try to remember in the future that you are indeed a Lady. I too have been a member joining in 2009 and certainly over the years, the help from members like yourselves solved many of my problems.
Ad error, this appears to cleared itself.

Downloads has reverted backed to non installing. Nothing has been changed or altered. However, downloads are found the File Explorer>Downloads, but not show Desktop Download Icon.

That is where they are told to go. You have to install them from there.

Mr Bill, That is correct, however when you click Downloads Icon on the Desktop, it shows no reference to that particular Software. As at present the software is saved in the File Explorer under Downloads. As instructions above by members, error was fixed but now currently, not work.

As Mr Bill correctly states the Downloads folder is the default save location for software downloaded from the Internet unless you specify another location in the Save dialogue box.

It would seem that there is an issue with your desktop Downloads icon - I suggest you delete the icon on your Desktop and recreate it ...

File Explorer > right click on the Downloads folder > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). Clicking on the new Downloads icon on your Desktop will open the Downloads folder.

I truly believe this is happening because you have created a short cut on your desktop labeled Downloads but your browsers are not told to put your downloads there, the browser is told to put downloads in the actual Downloads folder you see in File Explorer. Part of these problems happen Bobby because you continue to reinstall your operating system. Everytime you do this usually all your personal settings, like this personally created Download Desktop shortcut, will be reset to Default, meaning Factory Set.

jholland1964, I in what you say, the Download issue was resolved after my last reinstalling Windows 10, and the download issue worked well until the last few days, it just stopped saving to the Download Icon. Currently set as C:\Users\bobst\Desktop\ Downloads.

PeteC, I have carried out your suggestion. Will check with my next saved software from the net. I have checked content in the new Desktop Icon, it shows all the File Explorer contents.
