Installing software or trying too, caption shown on screen. "Warning 1909 - could not create short cut OpenOffice. Veryfy that the destination folder exists and you can access it". In this case found it by opening Rt Start>Search> typing OPenOffice, enter and clicking OpenOffice app. What is causing the error, "Can't create short cut 1909". Check showed that an update for OpenOffice is available, but unable to carry out this procedure, owing to error 1909. Thanks.

    Bobby, found this by Googling:
In error 1909s on program installs, the Program Data directory is set with Read-Only attributes. When the install fails and you get the 1909 error, stop. DO NOT CLOSE the install or click any button. Simply open up another window, browse to the Program Data directory (C:\Program Data\whatever-the-name-of-the-directory-is, like C:\Program Data\Apple for an iTunes install), right click and select properties, clear the Read-Only attributes at the bottom of the box and Apply. Then return to the failed install and click retry. TADA! Your install will succeed.

RL, many thanks for seeking a solution to my encountered error, appreciated. I tried again to install OpenOffice software, this time the error 1909 did not surface and installed successfully, so unable to use your help suggestion. Startup icon appears not to be installed, but able to access OO by clicking the Data file that I use for recording my weather information. I have taken a note content of your suggestion for any future requirement. Thanks RL.

I notice that SpellCheck in BBS that I found most usefull, appears to be no longer working or any reference to it, is this correct?

RL, error must have been a bug, as further corruption raised several others were found, with some just freezing an open software. In the end decided to reinstal Windows 10, afer which the computer began to work much quicker. OO was reinstalled in the normall way, without the previous error showing. Still experiencing the odd freeze when saving file worked on.
