Maybe someone can PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
I have ******* up a friends aol setup.
I know I know why aol dialup in this day and age. However the
company that my friend works for has an unbelievable corporate
deal with aol and for my friends purposes of e-mail and simple
web browsing he feels that this is adequete (for now!!!)
Anyways the genius here ******* things up. Previously on aol
logon the "you have mail" would come on. Then a mail screen
    would automatically appear.
Now "you have a mail" comes on and thats it. You can get mail manually but no automatic screen.
There is an automail function but this has to do with an autopilot automatically doing mail functions at a set time.
I have been through two aol Canada help desks. They are
located in New Brunswick surprisingly. Anyways they are mystified. This feature is not supposed to be available. Maybe
    they say in version 3.
I believe the initial installed version was aol 6 > then upgraded
to aol 7. The computer is less than a year old so ver 3 is out of the question.
My friend says that when his expert installed aol this was part of the normal setup routine.
The aol help desk considers this a vital question of discussion.
Can somebody help me out please !!!! Where is this setting ?
Or if I reinstall aol 6 or 7 will I create new settings wipe out ??
    and cause additional trouble ?
As they say I was only trying to be helpfull.

First let me tell you what I have learned about AOL. Keep calling. Eventually you find someone who knows something. The biggest problem with their help people is that they are not really computer experts, they're reading from a manual. (my opinion). I had a serious compatibility issue with xp and aol and it took two months before I found someone at aol who told me the simple solution.
What I do know -- You can install 8.0 over your 6.0 or 7.0. The new settings will automatically go into your 8.0 and your 7.0 will remain on your computer until you uninstall it.
    Good luck

    thanks and ...

    thanks,

    I will tell my friend.
one of the major computer mags did a "real world" computer
    vendor evaluation.
One of their major concerns was that one of the main vendors who was previously known for service had fallen badly.
For the most part everyone at their American help desk was
a newcomer- less than three months who was only their to get a reference to get another (better ) job
The main tech desk is now handled by satellite out of INDIA.
The quote was that the company had realized "why pay $ 30 an jour in the US when in India you can do it for $ 10 a day "
I have read that these Indian call center employees are trained and updated by watching American movies in order to get
    the right accent.
Only the overflow tech help is handled out of the US.
