Resolved Laptop goes into hibernation when I put it to sleep

    For years, I have disabled hibernation in my computers. I routinely put my computer to sleep to save power, 10-20 times a day. I am on one of the the delayed Windows 10 update channels, with feature updates set for a 90 day delay. This is why I just got 1809 a few days ago.

    After updating to 1809, I cannot get my laptop to sleep. I can select it in my start menu, but even after just a few seconds, with the battery at 100%, when I click the mouse to revive it, it emerges from hibernation, and I have to log in.

    I went into the command prompt and disabled hibernation (just to make sure, although I had already done that when I first got this laptop and set up W10). I went into my power options and saw only sleep there, hibernation wasn't an option. Right now, I looked after enabling the viewing of protected system files, and I didn't even see hiberfil.sys on my C drive (that is where it should reside, isn't it?). But even after several restarts, I checked the Update section of settings to see if there was any updates that needed installing & restarting to finish--nothing.

    So what can I do? Should I just update to the May 2019 update and hope that MS has fixed it? I am 100% sure this is an update issue, as I did absolutely nothing to prompt this on my own.

    Thanks, I looked at the link and checked my settings. It was already set for Never.

    The issue isn't that Windows requires me to sign in, so much as that when I tell it to sleep, it goes into hibernation. After clicking the mouse, instead of seeing my last display, I see the Lenovo splash screen, the fan goes on super loud, then I see the sign in page--just as if I had started up a computer instead of waking it.

    Did some more searching tonight, found a suggestion to turn off the PCI Express settings in the Power Options, but that didn't help either.

    Interesting. I think the problem has been resolved.

    Sorry for the sloppy troubleshooting, but my last step was going to the AMD site, and making sure my graphics drivers were updated. I'm not sure if I merely d/l and ran the Radeon update assistant, or if it actually updated my drivers. All I know is that as of this moment, my drivers are updated.

    Before testing the new setup, I saw a Windows system message saying that I needed to restart because I had changed the PCI express settings. So I restarted, and it appears that the sleep problem has been resolved. I can now put the laptop to sleep, and then it resumes from sleep w/o having to come out of hibernation. I am not sure if it is b/c of the graphics driver update, or b/c of the restart allowing the PCI express settings to be implemented. But one of them appears to have fixed the problem. I'll mark this as solved unless this problem returns.

    It is always good practice to SHUTDOWN and then Startup again to enable changes/updates to Software to take place.;)

    I was sure that I did that (before upgrading the graphics drivers)--reboot before going to the graphics driver update. But I saw a notification in teh bottom right corner of my display advising me to reboot, so then I surmised that I hadn't rebooted (why else would I get that notification?). Who knows. But I do agree, that is good advice.

    Could of been something else requiring a reboot. Different update than the Graphics card.
