When will I see v1809 or even v1903?

I always do that, I never give Microsoft the opportunity to screw it up for me.

The difference with 1903 is that previously, I used a USB-stick (more computers than one) but that is prevented by "no external storage allowed to be connected" during the installation. Now an ISO has to be created on each one of them.

The good news on 1903 is that when Microsoft deems the time to be right for an installation, they ask permission to do the deed. They don't just do it anymore and the installation can be postponed. It seems like MS actually listen to the users/customers!

I have no mention of the May 2019 update being installed in my computer. Is Microsoft still downloading/installing Windows May 2019 update at random on selective computers?

Bobby, read the Posts on this Forum and you will see that some users have 3rd party software which is not compatible for the 1903 update.
MS is trying to identify them, but if you are still switching your comp off at the wall switch, MS only has the time available when you are actively using your comp to recognize your unit.

RL, Thanks for your response. Reading my Windows Update, shows a caption that my computer is not quite ready for it. "Once your device is ready the update, you will see this update is available on this page" There is nothing you need to do at this time.
I note that you suggest leaving the mains switch on when closing down computer. What I can't think as to which 3rd party software is causing the trouble with the update.

No sign of any upgrade so far. But, you know, if I was perfectly honest, v1803 does all that I want, it gets regular security updates and, as far as I can see, neither v1809 or v1903 offer any changes or new features that would be actually useful or beneficial to me, now or in the future.

Makes you wonder just why MS bother with (supposedly) regular feature updates in the first place. Are they adding features that millions of users have requested or are they just vanity projects for MS?

Perhaps the design focus should be on "security" rather than esoteric "features"

I believe that RL suggests that you do not shut down the computer but leave it running over night or even a few days. This would give Microsoft the opportunity to let Windows Update analyse your system and determine its status while you aren't actually using the computer.

Looks like something, somewhere, may be happening. Getting this message, headed "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903"

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update is on its way. We're
offering this update to compatible devices, but your device
isn't quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you'll see
the update available on this page. There's nothing you
need to do at this time.

Just what they mean by ....your device isn't quite ready for it .... isn't clear. Presumably there will be some further message in due course. Seems to confirm that the previous update, v1809 is being by-passed.

Hi Alan, Cumulative update 1903 does in fact have all the latest features including those that were introduced in 1809!
A lot of the "new features" come from suggestions from computer techs who are on the "Insider Preview".
These guys quite often need features that the average user like you and me don't have any need for.;):eek:o_O

I am running win10 version 1809 Build 17763.557 and have still not been offered the latest update to version 1903, to be honest other than security and bug fixes I would stop updating to the next version if Microsoft would keep supporting it for a reasonable time but we seem to be caught in the trap of only getting support for about 18months for each version if seems they want to force us to keep updating even if we are happy with what we have got, Every time you are forced to update you seem run the risk of some compatibility issues

Just like every time you walk outside you take a chance of the sky falling and hitting you in the head. The compatibility issues are really few and far inbetween for most people. Security issues are usually fixed also. I guess you could say 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

I have never had any problems with MS updates/upgrades as I endeavour to use 3rd party software compatible to MS and keep it updated.

The update was offered on one of computers today. Would take the plunge in a day or two, in the meantime creating an image of the system - just in case.
