Have a new SSD that I plan to install Win10 on to replace my Win7. I have several programs installed on the current "C" drive along with the Win7 OS. What might be the best way to get those programs installed on a separate platter drive and leave the SSD with just the OS?

Just physically move your current drive (the data cable) to a secondary (D) drive position. Those that don't need installation will run just fine. Applications that typically are installed to Windows will have to be reinstalled to tell Windows their new location.
