I have several SD cards (with files/photos on that that opened a while back) that are no longer recognized by Window 10 on my Acer laptop. Someone mentioned it maybe that they they are only 4GB, 8GB and 16GB so I bought a new Micro Card with 64GB (with Adapter) still not working. It does pop up and says "insert card" I have also tried it with a USB adapter...same result. Some mentioned a Window update is probably causing this. BTW same result on my 2nd laptop and a friend's laptop. Anyone any new ideas ? - I have found some on Google but none successful. Cheers

I have no problem opening a 64MB, 128MB and a 2GB SD cards of 3 different makes and the oldest has photos taken in 2009.
My HP 1000 Notebook is running Windows 10 Home 64bit Version 1809 and OS Build 17763.437.
Have you checked > Control Panel > Default Programs?

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't checked Control Panel > Default Programs. They all seem to say "Choose a Default" I'll check my other Laptop later to see what it says. I did try setting Memory Card under Camera Storage to " open folder to view files " and "ask me everytime" At the top "AutoPlay for all media and devices" is ticked off. No idea what all these should be, never seen that page before ? Whatever I tried did not work.

Did you expand > Choose a Default > in Removable Drive?
I have chosen in Camera storage to Play (WMP) and as I said the SD card plays immediately I plug it in.

Yep, tried that...still nothing, shows I'm using E: drive, but from there it says insert card and cards have been inserted. By themselves and through a usb adapter, Spent sooo much time on this I'm about to give up :)

Does E: Drive show in Device Manager?
Have you tried Right click on drive > Properties > Driver > Update driver?

That seems to be the solution used by many others with the same problem.
    But do it this way:
    1. open device manager
    2. insert a card into the reader
    3. the device should show up newly in device manager
    4. if yellow exclamation mark > update driver.
    5. if no exclamation mark next to the device > rt click > select uninstall " reboot.
    6. do #5 if #4 doesn't fix.

Thanks Guys. Problem Solved. Did what I should have done in the first place. I took the Micro Card and adapter back to store...the micro card was OK but the adapter was damaged. They replaced, tried the new one and followed your above instructions, disable, insert, re-start etc. and it worked. Again, thank you for your assistance/
