    OK!

Sheila we will forget EasyClean. The one you downloaded must be larger than mine because I keep EasyClean on Floppy.

Yes I am aware of this file you found. Do nothing to it yet!

    Run the RNAV and SyCln.

    Mike

PS did you do the cleanmgr /sageset:1 and /sagerun:1 I advised earlier?

Time to finish up! Print this to carry to other computer.

Ok! As I said I did not expect a good boot yet! Possible but not expected.

If you can hang with me a little longer we will correct this and because of the cleanups the computer will run even better than before.

The next step should be done carefully.

    Go to run

    type

    regedit

Click the My Computer at the top to hilite
then hit ctrl F (to find)

    type

    norton

    click ok or hit enter

it will stop on an entry, delete it

then hit the F3 key this will continue the search

Repeat these steps till it completes.

Then slide the side and bottom sliders so that you can again hilite My Computer

    Ctrl F to find

    type Symantec

    repeat as above

    when finished exit regedit

    Last steps

    1. Right click My Computer, and then click Properties.

    2. Click Advanced, then Performance Options, then Change.

    3. Make a note of the initial and maximum sizes .

    4. Change both to 0 (zero).

    5. Click Set and then click OK. The system will advise you to restart the computer. Do not do so now!!!!!

    6. Click My Computer browse to the c:\Windows\Minidump directory(if no windows folder it will be winnt folder). When there go to top Tools-Folder options-View, put a dot in Show Hidden folders and files.

    7. Delete everything located in this directory. Then close!

    8. Use search for the following file: sysdata.xml file.

    9. Delete all instances (you may find more than one) of this file.

    10. Click the Start button, click Turn off the computer, and then click Restart. Let it come up normally!

When it restarts it will give an error on the pagefile this is normal.

After it is up (normally I hope) go to the step above to change the page file and correct the values back to what you wrote down.

Get back to me with the good news!

    Mike

PS thousands maybe millions of people reformat and reinstall for things like this.

OK, all done. Still the same thing.
When doing the regedit the following would not delete:
    Default Norton Integrator:MouseOver
    Symantec REG_SZ (No Value)
    Also
in the WINNT directory the following could not delete:
Explorer, debug,system32, Registry, AppPatch, Security, Fonts.
Then - I went in and reset the INT and MAX
Then I tried to go into the regedit again and it says it cannot and to check the file path...

When you were in Regedit were you sure you were searching for only NORTON and then Symantec?

It is possible some would not delete, but I think you did it correctly.

This quote from you last message does not sound right

"Explorer, debug,system32, Registry, AppPatch, Security, Fonts "

If you were not in the c:\winnt\minidump folder you just deleted your windows folder.

That is what these errors sound like, that you were in c:\winnt only and not c:\winnt\minidump

Please tell me that you did not do this.

YES! That is what you did! I just reread my description there. I can see how you could misinterpet this. But what I meant was if you did not have a c:\windows\minidump that it would be
c:\winnt\minidump! I am sorry I should have written it all out.

    Ouch!

If this had been the minidump folder we should have been done!

    But

    We can still fix this

In order to fix this we will have to reinstall 2k. But we can do this so that it should keep all your settings.

Do you have the 2K disk and another hour now?

This is always a fear that we have in doing these things. That an error will be made that either compounds makes it worse or causes another problem. Especially when doing it by messages!

But I have a good record here. So lets fix it!

    It can be fixed.

So let me know! I have a few errands to do but will stay do do what it takes.

I am emailing you my phone number and you may call and I can talk you thru this quicker.

But I do not have the slightest idea where you are in the world. You could be in England as far as I know.

    Ok Sheila

Put in the 2k install CD and reboot do nothing but let it come up to the setup screen. It should boot from the CD if it does not let me know and I will tell you how to make it do so.

If it boots from the Install CD (it may ask you to hit a key to boot from the cd) then go to next step. If it does not boot from CD get back to me.

Here is the procedure from one of our own. Saves me from having to write it.
Read the 4th message down /Laage

This is the steps to get 2K to update the system files without wiping out your other settings and software.

From my own memory /Laage is right own and he is very good!

I REMIND AS HE DOES DO NOT CHOSE THE FIRST OPTION TO REPAIR BUT CHOSE INSTALL, THEN WHEN THE INSTALLER FINDS AN EXISTING INSTALLATION ONLY THEN CHOSE REPAIR.

    (Thanks /Laage)

    Sheila

Pay attention only to the part of installing.

The key is not to chose the first repair but chose install and when the installer finds a 2K installation already on the HD it will ask what to do, here you chose repair.

Disreguard the part about disk controllers.

I sent you my phone number cll me if you want me to talk you thru this.

Or send me your number and I will call you. I feel responsible so want to correct this.
