Until today, clicking a saved data file opened in LibreOffice, but now opens in Wordpad. I have tried several times to uninstall LibreOffice and then reinstall it, but data files still open in Wordpad. How can I resolve this issue, that is proving to be a real issue for reading and writing my saved data files.

What's the extension of files you are trying to open in LibreOffice. ".txt" ?

RS, LibreOffice writer are saved as obt files and open with the same. Why WordPad comes in is puzzling. This happened after LibreOffice installed it current update 6.2. I tried to revert back to 6.1.5 but WordPad still persisting.

Bobby, are you sure you have saved in obt files?
LibreOffice 6 I have installed saves in:
(.odt) (.ott) (.uot) (.docx) (.xml) (.doc) (.dot) (.html) (.rtf) (.txt) (.docm) and in MS Word variants.
I cannot find any reference to (.obt)

Bobby, Click on Start > scroll down to Windows System > click to expand > click on Control Panel > Programs and Features > locate LibreOffice and RIGHT click on it.
This should open a Menu and click on REPAIR.
you will be asked to approve changes to your system as the Repair takes place.
Click Yes and then wait until it finishes.
Close out Desktop and Restart your comp to allow the changes to complete.
Now check LibreOffice to see if its back to normal.

Or right click on any odt file-> Properties. There is "Opens with" option followed by the default program. Click Change & select LibreOfiice. Click Ok & Ok. Now the file should again be associated with LibreOffice.

RL, I tried out all your suggestions, but proved negative, as did repair.
    RS, again proved negative.
In sheer desperation, located a program called Apache OpenOfficeand if my long time memory bud is correct it was superseded with LibreOffice Writer, certainly the similarities are shown. Out of desperation and a few tweaks, it fills my needs, and much faster in opening. Over the weeks LibreOffice did show to be in despair, final straw was the update to 6.2. that went hair wire. So for the meantime will use OpenOffice and take the opportunity in thanking you both for interest shown.

OpenOffice fid it far superior to LibreOffice writer. Much more reliable and its layouts being identical to LibreOffice, makes it must have, 10/10.

Thanks for your comment. Certainly, if other members searching for a writer software find it appropriate for their needs. I am not selling OpenOffice, just a recommending it.
