I installed an old version of CD creator, then uninstalled it as it wasn't compatible with XP. However XP kept trying to load it.

I tried to remove all traces of it, unsuccessfully. Still tries to load it after logging on. Now the CDRW will read ok, but won't write. Device manager tells me the device works ok. Up until last week there was no problem burning. I fiddled with a couple of drivers - removed, and put them back. cdr4_2k.sys and cdralw2k.sys. I get message that they can't be loaded - obsolete, but when I removed them, the CD didn't work at all - interesting.

Tried installing second CDR/W as slave, and same problem - reads but won't write.

Perhaps I accidentally deleted something critical (eg driver). Tried reinstalling drivers, but just get message that the latest drivers are already installed.

I suspect I have deleted or changed something critical. I don't have a restore point (had to instal something recently which required restore turned off)

    Help.

Sounds to me like your ASPI layer may have been corrupted by the older cd creator you installed. Go to this link and and get the latest ASPI layer, should fix your problem...goodluck

You need to download the Force ASPI files by the way

Thanks for advice. Tried V4.71.2 with no effect. Check on ASPI showed incorrect installation of two files. Downloaded and installed V4.6. Now the check on ASPI shows it properly installed and fully operational. v4.6 dated 9/10/99. However, still won't write to CD. Tells me to install balnk CD. Any further ideas?
