How do I share on two PCs on the same private network, if they are not listed under Network on the the two PCs? I have file and print sharing turned on, all the applicable services are set to automatic.

My 3rd PC is a Windows 7. It shows up on the two Windows 10 machines, and the Windows 7 shows the other PCs listed under network. Turning off the password protect gives me access from the Windows 7 machine, but only to public folders on the Windows 10 machines.

What I'd like to do is share pictures and documents from one Windows 10 machine to the other Windows 10 machine. Since they have both received the fall update 1809, they no longer list other Windows 10 machines on the same network.

And it breaks the Windows 10 sharing... you'll need to have the passwords setup on both machines.

So I should set up an account on the machine that I want to access, with my laptop account name and password on it?

One machine is a shared computer which has one account being used by everyone. The other is my laptop that I am the only one using. Both currently have their own account name and password.

I created an account on my Windows 7 netbook that is the same as my Windows 10 Laptop. I can now see and access my netbook files from my laptop computer.

I also created an account on my Windows 10 PC that is the same as my Windows 10 Laptop. On the PC I can see the laptop listed under network, but can"t access it except as a media which gives me access to libraries such as music and pictures. I want to be able to access documents too.

I must be setting up something incorrectly, but I don"t know what.

I had the same problem after a new install of win10. I eventually found the problem was SMB 10./CIFS Client must be ticked on. This is found under Control Panel-Programs and Features-Turn Windows Features on or Off. Hope this helps:)

    Sorry, missed your post.

Doesn't have to be te same, but for ease of use you can. But any username password will work, you'll be asked for it and can save it once entered...

Caneman I checked and it is ticked in windows features already.

Arie I still can't access the files I want to on that PC after creating an account on it that is the same as my laptop.

Sorry for the delay in my reply. I can't see my PC on my laptop I'm trying to access it from, except listed as an empty folder under Network. I don't get any error message. I'm not sure what information to put in the network troubleshooter.

When you type Network trouble while you have the start menu selected, you'll see Identify and repair network problems listed. When you select that the troubleshooter runs without any further input.

I ran the troubleshooter Arie and it did not detect any issues.
