For the past couple of months, my wifi adapter has been dropping out. I thought it was an ISP thing, but looking at my ping times to the default gateway, the returns are erratic. Also, when the adapter does drop out (yellow exclamation mark), the other dhcp clients which are Ethernet are still connected. Or maybe someone has a different opinion?

    Thanks

Does the dropping out happen while using the pc or while it is left unattended?

Just copy & paste the image. The service you use probably doesn't allow embedding...

To verify that the adapter is on its way out we need to know the following:
    • operating system
    • screenshot of adapter properties (network & sharing center > change adapter settings > rt click > properties)
    • wifi security type
    • router/access point wifi mode (b, g, a, n both, etc)
    • router/access point wifi channel
    • distance from access point
    • other devices nearby (microwave ovens, baby monitor, garage door, radios, printer, tv, etc)
    • adapter chipset (just give adapter name listed in device manager)
If this is a laptop, heat buildup will cause wifi to drop out. Blow out dust. Same if a desktop.

I dont know Arie, I've been around many years and I can see the board layout has changed. I've always used the image link to show images.

    Thanks.
Are you using the latest driver? The most recent driver for that adapter is from 2016. I would try uninstalling it and then reinstalling it using the latest driver. That failing, I would replace it with an adapter that has its own external antenna. In my opinion, wifi adapters with internal antennas are not worth it and eventually fail due to "wear and tear" caused by heat. I prefer something like this:
    TP-LINK TL-WN722N 150Mbps Wireless N USB - Micro Center
