Today I pressed the on button as usual and I at first I thought that the hdmi cable had come loose as I wasn’t getting anything on the screen. Having had a look at that, both ends are fine.

When I turn it on the sound from the box just sounds exactly the same, constant. Usually when you boot up you hear lots of different noises from ‘under the bonnet’.

How can I tell if it’s my mboard or my ssd that’s the problem? Or even if it might be something else entirely?

    My system is:
Gigabyte B150 Sniper B7 ATX Skylake motherboard
    Intel core i5 6600 3.3Ghz Skylake processor
    8Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400Mhz DDR4 Memory
ITb Western Digital Red hard drive
    Samsung 128Gb 840Pro ssd

You need to try another monitor first. You should see something on the screen - even is something like searching for a signal. If you don't have another monitor, note that most TVs support computer input.

10 out of 10 to Bill. The monitor was exactly the problem. I’m up and running again so many many thanks.

Also I would like to extend a huge thank you to Arie and the other computing experts for having this forum which is open to all. It is always my first and last port of call whenever I have a problem. Well done guys. You rock!
