I have a mates hp laptop here, and he set up a skype account with one name , and he now wants to change the name . The account is linked to a Microsoft account . We logged into his Microsoft account, and changed the name. But when we try to log into the skype account, it still opens with the first name. If we log into the skype account from a different computer, it opens in the second name. So it appears that the account name on the laptop is still under the old name. We have tried to locate where the account folder for skype is located on his laptop so we can delete it, but we cannot find it. It is not located in the usual place. We have run %appdata%\skype and it is not there. Has anybody else had an issue with finding the skype folder on win 8.1 , or would anybody now where it is located. The skype software was downloaded from the Microsoft site. The log on for his skype is his microsoft account email , and the password is the same for his microsoft account also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Graham, Microsoft now own and run Skype. Was the Skype software on the laptop the earlier version or the later Microsoft?
When you made the changes to the account - did you completely shut down the laptop to enable the changes to take place?

Yes i did, numerous times. The Skype version that was on the machine was the latest version 8.25.0.5 , i uninstalled it and reinstalled it, still the same issue, again after numerous reboots. I have now uninstalled it and installed a previous version 7.41.0.101 , rebooted and logged in and we now have access to the updated name. It is working fine, so my mate is happy. Appreciate your help. only issue may still be if it auto updates to the latest version we may run into this issue again, so i would still be interested in finding where the account folder is stored for the new version of skype so i can delete it.

    Run > regedit > OK
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
and scroll down to skype entries where I found it in W10. Skype is part of the OS now.
Don't know whether W8.1 is exactly the same.
Hope this helps but be careful in your Registry!!!
