Had a Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 Ti graphics card installed. It has 3 power connectors total,
2 power connectors have 6 holes.
1 power connector has 2 holes.
    Total of 14 holes.
    Worked fine.

I upgraded to a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 TI (mini). It has:
    1 conversion cable for power.
Containing (2 connectors of 6 holes each) merged into 1 connector
    of 8 holes (looks like a "Y").

Trying to figure how to do the connection from power to card. The 6 to 8 is
fine but that leaves me with the 2 hole connector and no where to plug it into the card.
Not sure how this will work.

I'm still searching the web but could use some advise.

    thanks,

What is the brand because as seen here, you should only have 2 connectors on that card, a 6 pin and an 8 pin. Note that just happens to total 14 so it is likely you have a 6 + 2 connector from your PSU that works as your 8 pin.

You didn't tell us what PSU you have either. That's probably the issue.

you are right about the 6 + 2 connectors. i'm concerned about the "2" not having a plugin on the new (1080) card.
My system is an IBP (I Buy Power) gaming system. I'll have to take out the PSU to see what it is since i cannot
see the label. Its covered by a large plate.

The new card, 1080, only has 1 power connection, an 8 pin. This may be only for the "Mini" card.
I'll check the power size when i remove the plate.

    thanks,

    retiredlearner,

that PDF is for the full sized card. The mini card is different, it only has 1 eight pin connection (and 2 big fans).

    thanks,

    yes, that's the one.

I had it installed for 2 days and things were going well.
My monitor is a NEC, PA301W-BK (30) inches) that was also fairly new.
I'm using the Display Port from it and the graphics card.
Since getting to the power supply is darn near impossible without a lot of work, i'm
going to try it again with a different display port.
Will report findings from that here this PM.

    thanks,

OK, The new card is in and the monitor sees it. All is working fine. Guess "they" had a work-around for the
2 power pins (I'm just not using them). Maybe the mini card don't need as much power? I doubt that since
the card has as much punch as a full size card. Who knows  .
Altho, i was expecting a higher resolution than the 2560x1600 with this monitor and card....

thanks for all the help, guys!

Hi clif, good to see you're up and working. In the link from Zotac, it was recommended for a minimum 600W PSU and under full test the card used 352W!!!
From the info quoted, I gathered that there was a connector provided for the power connection to the card?
Where does the card power up come from - I thought it needed the power connection for the fans?

I'll close this thread and get on to whatever is next...
