When I try booting up I get my "Acer Logo" then the circle of dots going round and round. Some times later on I received a message saying "preparing automatic repair" but that just freezes and nothing happens. No keys seem to do anything.. Tried the F8 when turning on thinking I could get to Safe Mode but no can do. I have left it on the above for hours, there appears no way to do anything else... I believe it stated with a recent overnight automatic up date that failed to load possibly because of a Wi-Fi loss during the night.(?) just guessing there...... anyway, would anyone have a clue what I can try, bearing in mind none of my windows 10 keys work... It was a free Win 10 update from Win 7 a couple of years ago and I have no boot up disk,,,,, do have a second laptop which I am on now but haven't found any solutions to date. Appreciate it .....:(

Best I could think of is: go to a different computer and get the mediacreationtool1803.exe from MS and then download win 10 1803 to a thumb drive or DVD and try to boot with that.
a repair install might be all you need, that way all your files will be there when you are done.
    Hope this helps

Yes. that had been suggested to me and I did download it on to a USB stick.... my problem is I cannot get past the "Preparing Automatic Repair" that opens up and freezes..... I cannot boot from a USB port (unable to start "Safe Mode' to change the boot order) none of my keys work so I am stuck with my Acer explore beyond limits logo with "Preparing Automatic Repair" below it..... have left it that way for hours but nothing happens. It I could get into safe mode somehow I do believe it can be fixed.

You need to get into the BIOS to change the boot order. I don't know if it is DEL or some other key to get there

I have set my LapTop (Toshiba) to boot from USB first and SSD second. This means that if a bootable USB-stick is present, it will boot from that one, otherwise from the SSD.

To enter this setup, press and hold the F2 button while power on and don't release F2 until the menu comes up. Again, this is on my Toshiba but (fingers crossed) it should be the same on any computer.

I forgot to mention that if a bootable USB-device is present, tapping F12 (continously) immediately after powering on brings up a boot menu from which I can make my selection.

As I mentioned in my previous post, permanently setting USB as the first device is very convenient. I have done that because I use an imaging program, running from a USB-stick. When it's present, the computer boots from it. When not, the computer boots from the SSD.
