Gateway has a HDMI plugin slot (came with a rubber cover inserted in the HDMI slot).
Hooked up to a NEC 30in monitor HDMI slot. monitor menu has HDMI selected.

I can never get it to work. I get a "No Signal" showing on-screen. Have tried 2 cables both with
    same result.

    Some advice will be appreciated.

    thanks,

Hi clif, I just shut down my comp and disconnected the Monitor and comp DVI cable and connected a HDMI cable between them and Started the comp again and all works OK.
My Monitor is a ViewSonic 27inch which has VGA, DVI and HDMI connectors and my Asus GEForce GT740 graphics card also has all 3 types of connectors.
I've had no problem at all - just boot up and carry on as before. I thought I would make the change to see if I could replicate your problem but it works sweet as.;)
I would check to make sure your connectors are clean - no dust, spider webs or the like as it seems very unlikely that 2 cables could be faulty.
The cable I used has gold covered terminals - supposed to be the best and usually the dearest.

The difference is that my HDMI slot is not on the graphics card but is a standalone slot on the rear face of the pc. It is color
coded with a orange paint job and integrated onto the motherboard much like the on-board sound.

I'll keep trying different things until it works, tho.

    thakns,
    clif

The odds are that this is connected to the onboard graphics which would be disabled by the graphics card.

That makes perfect sense! I'll remove the graphics card and try HDMI that way.

That did it! Soon as i removed the graphics card and re-booted, HDMI kicked in.
    All is well now.

    thanks,
