I just got off the phone with MS and I am not happy. I have spent the day (and most of last night) working through all of the device specific upgrade issues of going from Win ME to Win XP. I used a 120 day eval copy I got from an MS Event, mostly because I was in a hurry to get XP loaded. Now MS tells me that I can't just decide to buy XP and upgrade from the eval copy. I have to uninstall the eval copy (and all of the new drivers/patches/etc.) and upgrade from ME. Does anyone know a way around this?

    Hi alwitnohumor
    Welcome to the boards!
Sorry for your frustration. :( I've done a quick search to see if I could find you a work around.....but I've not been successful either.

    Thank You!!

Daizy, thanks very much for the research help. I wasn't able to find anything -- you must be a better googler than me. I sure appreciate your reply! I have not purchased the upgrade yet, but should have it by the end of next week. I will post my results then. As for the village idiot comment, you're tops in my book!

    Post-Note:

I just finished upgrading from my evaluation copy of XP to the full-version of XP-Pro, using an upgrade edition. I encountered no problems with the upgrade. Obviously, the check to see if I owned a valid OS before allowing the upgrade, found the evidence of Win ME and I got the green light. The upgrade edition I used was an ACADemic edition and I did have to do a registry hack with MS to get my PPPoE working, but that had nothing to do with the fact that I was currently running an evaluation edition of XP. Whew, am I glad I didn't have to go back to ME before upgrading.
