I have been getting some emails that come out in code instead of readable text. I was told to reset my MIME to base 64. I looked at many different things and could not find out to do this. Can anyone help?Thank You

    Welcome to the Forum, Turfman!

    Hi Turfman,

Could you post the header information of the email in question, please? You can do that by clicking on View | Message Source

Generally, once a file is decoded, it can only be opened by the same application that created it, or one that can read that kind of file. For example, Microsoft Word should be able to open Word or WordPerfect files. There may also be difficulties if the versions of the application are not the same; for example, if you send a Word 97 file to someone who only has Word 6 on their computer, when the recipient opens the file it will include gibberish.

So it could very well be the sender and not the recipient's problem. By defaul, Netscape encodes, using the MIME base64 code, called "quoted printable MIME" by Netscape.

My expertise in this area is not very strong, but perhaps I can help, once I see what the email header shows.

    Ramona :D

It could be that Netscape is not decoding the inline attachment properly (keeping in mind that I do not use Netscape), so it appears as garbage on the screen. If the message is base64 encoded or uuencoded, you can view it in a recent version of winzip. OR you can ask the sender not to send inline attachments. ;)

    tranquilo
