I have been accustomed to looking in CCleaner and seeing months of old System restore points. I was therefore shocked earlier in the week to see only three. Then a couple of days later I checked, and those three were gone, and I had none at all.

I have not defragged lately. I don't have Windows set to be doing this kind of thing with the points. What could be causing these points to disappear spontaneously? In the past they generally stayed until I deleted them manually.

I've had that to happen with Windows 7. My solution was check the amount of system restore space available and increase it a bit more.

    Thank you gentlemen.

I have it set on Max.

Good article. I'm working through it.

All the system info programs say so. I have a Dell that didn't come with an XP disk, and I know on my previous crashed hard drive SP3 came through a download rather than a disk. Via MasterSeeker I don't find on my current hard drive the alphanumeric that corresponds to the SP3 update. Windows Updates Downloader shows SP3 in blue as though I need to install it. You can see it at Don't understand WUD's GUI. I ran into a bit of a roadblock because I don't understand the WUD GUI as I relate there.

Should I have Volume Shadow Copy set to Automatic rather than Manual? Black Viper says no while Why is VSS set to Manual and not Automatic? says yes.

I am not entirely sure on the Icons but I think the Green circle main mean it's suitable info. The middle icon = Refresh and the last one usually means a new page.

Have a look through the subject and it will help with your decision.
