    My LENOVO will Not restart.

I had a major crash and it wiped out the hard drive

Installed new SSD and win 10

Since then when I try to restart the PC it will go through the shutting down ,but when it goes to restart/boot up I just get the LENOVO screen and it is stuck there . No action on the hard drive [the light does not blink] and I have to turn the PC off {using the power button} and then turn it back it the boots up.

Thought about flashing the BIOS but there is no update on the support page for BIOS on my machine.

    Any Ideas or help?
    Thanks EMCS

Hi EMCS, Welcome to WindowsBBS:). How long does the Restart take? If the drive has been renewed and W10 re-installed, it may be awaiting the latest updates? Have you checked to see what OS Build is shown in your Settings > System > About.
The latest I have received is OS Build16299.125.

    Thanks for your reply
Yes I have the latest OS build [I should have put that in the 1st post]

It is/was up to date on all the updates.(Just receive a new update today)

How long does the Restart take? = I let it sit the with no apparent activity for over 5 minutes {more than once} before I did a power down. The PC will then boot up.

I have disconnected all external hard drives only have the SSD running.

Maybe a corrupted GPT ? What does anyone think?

    Thanks EMCS

Have a check in your BIOS for UEFI and see if Fast Boot is enabled. Other users have found that Fast Boot can cause a problem - try it with Fast Boot disabled.

I sure have left a lot of things out that I should have posted.

Lenovo Model=K450e Desktop (ideacentre) with the lattest BIOS

check this Google Solved: URGENT: Windows 10 update and now can't boot - Lenovo Community
= Unfortunately that does not appear to apply.

FYI = I also tried restart while holding down the shift key >advance options>Automatic Repair [fix problems that keep your windows from loading] = Can not fix/repair your PC

Maybe time for a repair install ? 1st I'm going to take out the SSD { the crashed /wiped out was a SSD}and put back in the old spinner hard drive to see if I have the same problem .What do you think?

Thanks again for you help and suggestions.

    What exactly was the "crash"?
The drive is your 2nd. SSD?
    Your original is a HDD?
    What was/is your 1st. OS?
It boots as far as the Lenovo screen?
How did you install W10? Was it from an ISO on disc or USB?
Was this an Upgrade from an earlier MS OS version?
It will help if you can answer all the questions individually. Thanks.

What exactly was the "crash"? I was restarting the PC and it would not find the operating OS , The SSD was dead would not take a reinstall of win 10

The drive is your 2nd. SSD?= Yes The crash was on a SSD[number 1] .I installed a new SSD [number 2] which is the one that will not restart.
    Your original is a HDD?= Yes I have the HDD that came with the PC and that I had upgraded to win 10 , going to use it as a test later. [Will be in and out do other commitments}
What was/is your 1st. OS?= DOS 3.1 . The latest version of WIN 10 is on the new SSD

It boots as far as the Lenovo screen? = Yes then it just sits there , if I power off it will the boot up and every thing as it should be .

How did you install W10? Was it from an ISO on disc or USB? = I used the Media Creation Tool to down load a ISO with FCU lattest , I have used the same disk to up grade my other PC
Was this an Upgrade from an earlier MS OS version = NO It was a clean install.

Sorry, I meant what version of Windows was the HDD running before you upgraded it using the MCT.
Have you checked in BIOS (UEFI) whether your SSD is in the correct Boot position?
Just as an aside - how old was the SSD that 'crashed' and what brand is it?

Why don't you download Speccy and then you will be able to show your System Details > Menu > Your Account > Preferences - this will help others to help you.
Speccy - Free Download - Piriform
Just make sure you don't install without checking if there are extras in the install.

What AV are you using? If you are using a 3rd party AV - uninstall it and see what happens.
I don't think your GPT would be corrupt as you say it starts normally after a Hard Shutdown.

What AV are you using? = I'm only using windows Defender.

Unfortunately I'm not feeling well enough to crawl under my desk and pull out my PC to use the old HHD as as test .Hopefully I will be able to get that done soon

Thanks for all your help so far.

FYI = I hooked up the old hard drive and tried to restart it . No Luck .

Of course while I was letting the old had drive get ready it wanted to update WIN 10. so I let it but upon the restart it would not restart , After a hard shut down it will only boot to a black screen so I could not test it more. I'm not worried about the black screen I'll do a repair install on that much latter.

It appears there maybe something wrong with the GPT . The problem is there is no BIOS/GPT update on Lenovos website.
I'll have to see if the is someway to get a copy so I can reflash my BIOS/GPT if that can be done.

Went to Lenovo website support > Diagnostics tried "

    Looked the link over
See this =On an MBR disk, the partitioning and boot data is stored in one place. If this data is overwritten or corrupted, you’re in trouble. In contrast, GPT stores multiple copies of this data across the disk, so it’s much more robust and can recover if the data is corrupted.= Not working for me?

On my PC >Under Disk Management

    = C drive = Healthy (Boot , page file , crash dump , primary partition )

    Every thing reads healthy

From the link="GPT also stores cyclic redundancy check (CRC) values to check that its data is intact. If the data is corrupted, GPT can notice the problem and attempt to recover the damaged data from another location on the disk. MBR had no way of knowing if its data was corrupted—you’d only see there was a problem when the boot process failed or your drive’s partitions vanished."

Looks like I'll have to live with this problem.

    Thanks once more
