I took a friend's desktop computer home to try to get rid of all the junk on it. When I set it up and tapped the power button, "lenovo" and then the logo for Windows 10 but all I get is a rolling circle (attached) . I have searched many times on the internet but nothing I tried works. I have removed all usb connections except for the mouse and keyboard. I need at possible help you can give me to get windows to load.

    It is a Lenovo H215
    Processor- AMD Athion
    Memory - 4GB DDRS
Hard Drive 500 GB SATA II

Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.

    Jeanne

Have you tried to get in it in Safe Mode?

I would check all the internal connections to the motherboard, hard drive, etc - the computer may have taken a knock in transporting it to your place and a connection jolted loose.

I was finally able to get windows to show after about 45 minutes of looking at the rolling circle. I have tried to do some cleanup and ran Malware Bytes and it found about 174 problems. Now where I am is it said to reboot the computer so the malware would be cleaned. Now I'm trying to start the computer again and it is taking a long, long time.
I don't even know where to start when it comes up again. Can you help me with this big problem?

Now it won't start up at all. I am back to the start of when it won't boot. How can I get it to start in safe mode?

Hi again. Now I am having more problems. I now have the blue screen of death. Here are two pictures of it. It just keeps repeating until I power it down.

Is it time for me to tell my friend that I cannot fix the problem and take it to the computer store.

The error message is: stopcode ACPI BIOS ERROR

    Thank you

Hi Jeanne, Have you carried out Pete's suggestion?
Do you think you can renew the CMOS battery?

I think Pete's suggestion is opening the computer and checking the hardware. I'm sorry I just do not know how to identify hardware in the machine. I know a lot about software but not hardware. Also I did get it up and running after waiting an hour or so. Then I downloaded Malware Bytes, ran it, and removed over 100 malware. It said to complete the cleanup I should restart the computer and then that is when I couldn't get it back up and running. I don't know how to renew the CMOS battery. Is there anyway I can open it in safe mode?

Thanks for trying to help me. I did go on the site you sent but it won't help because it said:
The following sections describe how to start your PC in safe mode.

    "Show all
    From Settings
    From the sign-in screen"

I can't get this far because I can't open Windows at all.

I will somehow try to figure out how to get to the inside of the computer and try to replace the CMOS battery. I'll let you know.

OK, I finally opened her computer and went and bought a replacement battery. That went well and now somehow I managed to get into safe mode but I don't know what to do. Can you possibly help me get started to find her problem. Thank you.

    Great - well done :)

Will the computer now boot normally into Windows without blue screening?

No, I decided to restart it in normal mode and again it took about an hour to finish loading. I see the windows screen but I still can't do anything because I think something else is loading.

Here are some error messages I have received:
    Java(TM) Web Start 11.144.2.01
Cannot determine a valid Java Home.
    Error 182
    Edge can not open
    0x8007043c
    0x90017

    Stopcode ACPI BIOS Error

Here is a sreen shot of what it looks like now and I can't seem to open anything.
Now I am able to open apps. Where do I start seeing what is wrong? Thank you.

    Very frustrating :(

I would suggest first resetting the BIOS defaults to hopefully clear the ACPI error, but for the life of me I cannot find the definitive method of entering the BIOS on that Lenovo. Hitting F1 after powering on may do the trick or there may be something on the initial flash screen relating to Setup.

Anyway I've called in the cavalry in the form of Evan Omo who is better positioned to help than I am.

Edit the cavalry arrived before I finished typing :)

I'm sorry but now once again I can not start the computer. When I do I get the following message, see the attachments.
I'm ready to give up. I have tried all the advanced option but it is in a loop and always comes back to this screen.

Run through the steps outlined here, How to repair Windows 8 or Windows 10.

Start from the section labeled If the Windows Repair All in One tool does not repair your issue with Windows 8 or Windows 10 then follow these steps.

Then see if you can get the computer to boot into Windows without crashing.

I finally gave up. It was in a loop of trying to fix it but never succeeded. I took it to the computer shop and will let you know what the trouble was. I'll write later.
Thank you for all your help.

I gave up just like the computer guy. We had the computer for two weeks but neither of us could do anything with it. I found out later that my friend received a call from a so called person named "Microsoft" and apparently whatever they did to her computer caused the problem. I dropped the computer off to her and she is going to get a laptop. I told her to be sure not to accept any calls from anyone regarding her computer. Thanks for all the help you provided.
