Resolved Windows not displaying properly - what's up with that?

Often when working with MS Office products I need to have two windows open side by side. I'm working with MS Office Professional 2010.

Recently my computer has stopped displaying windows in side by side mode.

I can right-click on the task bar and tell it to display side by side, stacked, or whatever, but it does not work.

What's up with that?

 

I'm using MS Word 2013 and it works for me. Open both documents > View > Side by Side.

Have you made a shortcut on the Taskbar?
Uninstall the shortcut (unpin) and redo the shortcut.
You may have to close Word and Shutdown your comp and Restart for this action to take place.

I unpinned all MS product short cuts, rebooted, and still no side by side feature for viewing multiple windows.

 

Thanks. I tried that and it stacked them which is an improvement (i.e., two viewable windows), but still no side by side display.

Also, the side by side feature is not working with any of the other MS apps.

 

Arie, thanks for the suggestion. All software, the OS, and drivers are up to date. I'm running Office 2010 Professional and sometimes I get the sense that somebody at Microsoft is planning obsolescence for my software...

Given the nature of the tasks and my working patterns I would rather have the side by side display, but if need be I can live with the over/under arrangement for the few times a month that I use the multi-window feature.

"Where there is a will there is a way" the adage goes. If the software cannot be tweaked I'll install a video card that can run two monitors.

 

Well - my wife just showed me a work-around that at least got the open documents into a viewable side by side position.

To wit -

1. Open Excel in two sessions/windows, and retrieve the necessary files in the open sessions.

2. Click in one of the documents to choose it, the press the Windows button+arrow-right to place it to the right side of the screen. It took up half the screen.

3. Repeat but with Windows+arrow-left to position the other document. They will be side by side in evenly sized windows.

However, when I opened two sessions of Excel as she noted and right-clicked on the task bar and then "show windows side by side," the system still stacked them one above the other.

She is thinking on that one.
