Accessing ScanJet Slow After Reinstalling Win98

I had to reinstall my Windows 98 after the December Win98 Security update messed up my Explorer. Since then, when I click on my HP ScanJet 4200CSE scanner, it takes 45-60 seconds to get the program up and useable. I haven't noticed this delay with other programs, and it didn't exist before I reinstalled Win98. Does anyone have any suggestions what it might be or how it can be sped up? I reinstalled the HP software, but that didn't seem to make any change.

I would check the HP site for new drivers for the scanner. If that does not work one of the things that works for most hardware, and software is a clean install. Remove and reinstall and see if the makes a difference.

 

I did the clean uninstall and reinstall, yet it still is significantly slower to load than before my computer crashed. I have the most current software/drivers downloaded. I just remembered, that I have had this problem before with MS instant message program, yet, since I rarely use that, I've put up with it. That can take several minutes to load, and the problem with that program existed before the crash. Any other suggestions?
