Not a Win 10 fan, not yet anyway.

But the issue was my Mom's XP machine was starting to croak, and so I bought her a low end Dell Inspirion. All she does is email and log into her Health care website, but occasionally running a mapquest route.

    Here are the issues:

    A) She uses Outlook Express for her email So therefore, I need to import those contacts into Office 365

    B) Internet Explorer was unusable on the XP machine, so Firefox was her browser of choice. I'll need to import the bookmarks into Edge and a download of Firefox/Chrome

    C) It would be nice to get that XP/ Win 7 desktop appearance instead of the Win 8 appearance that is Win 10

She's 85 and does not like new stuff, so this will be a ½ day affair teaching her the new stuff

I can google-foo all this stuff, but I also know, this site is full of Microsoft experts, so maybe you all can give me your best links to tutorials and one for the import OE contacts into Outlook so I can relate to her.

    I appreciate the advice

    Regards

I'm not sure about (A) as I don't/haven't used Outlook Express. I think it will import into Mail in W10.
I use Firefox in W10 without problem, just download and install it and make it the Default in Apps > Defaults.
Download Classic Shell (free) or Start 10 ($5) and set it to look like XP or W7 or W8.1. I have set my wife's W10 with Start 10 to look like W8.1 which she has managed to handle OK.

Does one have to create an Outlook account? Also, I read that one has to do a login to the system. Is that true?

    Thanks

Your link above is about Outlook, not Express. OE exports to .csv, .txt etc.. I can't see where it goes to
.pst as my link above shows. That thread is three years old, I'd sure like to challenge that person on how they got the .pst

I just tried Windows Mail in W10. It worked flawlessly and seems easy enough to understand. My only use years ago was in Hotmail and when I opened Mail - there was my old Hotmail email address!
I would imagine you would be able to get Windows to import Outlook Express into Mail without too much hassle.
Have you opened Mail in W10 to see what it's like?

I'm not deploying til this Saturday. It appears that I'll just output the OE address book to a .csv, and then "sneaker net" it to the new computer and manually install each one into Outlook 365. As for the other stuff, I did watch several you tubes to
warn me about all the landmines of Win 10

    Thanks

Windows Live Mail is as easy to use as OE was. Not much difference. Free Download from MS and you can opt out of all the other stuff that comes with it if you want to. I took everything and have used a couple of things in the beginning. It is called Windows Essentials. Sets up the same way that OE does.
