With all the weird thing happening with my system, today I got another one. My Epson printer quit completely. I tried to update the drivers and they wouldn't install. Printer shows up in devise manager and says it working. Printer does show up in printers and devises, but doesn't do anything. I can't set it as first printer. Tried to update drivers again and got a message that my configuration data base was corrupt. Can this be fixed?
Has anyone tried any of the miracle fixes list on the internet, All gaurantee they can fix anything. Reimage seems to be the biggest pusher.

Have you tried Windows Trouble shoot? Start > Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Hardware & Sound > use a printer.

What model Epson is it? I have an Epson WF3640. I unplugged the printer to reset it, but had to uninstall and reinstall the software and drivers in order to get it to work.

I didn't get lost, just side tracted. My printer is an XP620. This is the one with the build in disc printer, which is my main use. I've gone thru all the trouble shooting stuff and the printer is not recognized. I tried installing drivers from the Epson web site and none of them work or can't install. I downloaded and installed the full package. Message said it was installed, but I couldn't find the printer. I rebooted the computer. During startup, I got a screen asking me which dvd drive I wanted to boot from - weird. I re-booted and went to bios setup. My boot drive and second boot drive (SATA 1 and 2) were now listed as "Epson Mass Storage". I e-mail Epson support and I don't think they believe me. They want me to call to talk to a live person.

Did you uninstall the printer in Device Manager > Shut down comp > Reboot and see if Windows finds and installs unit?

I did un-install the printer. I even went into the registry and deleted everything Epson. I rebooted the computer and device manager says it's there and working. Went to printer and devices and there is an icon there, but it does nothing. I won't let me install the printer - just says it can't install. I'm sure it's all part of the crazy Windows problem I'm having. One of these days it's going to **** me off enough to wipe it clean. My problem is I have programs on there that I can't get any more. I have the data backed up, but not the programs.

If you deleted all Epson entries - I think you would need to re-install the software again.
I would use Ccleaner to delete any Epson left behind, shut down comp then reboot and install the latest drivers software for your Epson printer.

As retiredlearner is pointing out, you must uninstall the drivers, there are specific apps available just for that, I used to have one Driver Uninstaller or something like that. I use Canon Printers and it is a must with them, just reinstalling drivers and uninstalling the printer is not good enough.

I tried the full install of the Epson printer and it didn't work. Just a short time ago, I pulled out my HP printer which hasn't been used in over a year. Install the software from the original disk, but computer coundn't find the printer. Went to HP site and downloaded their printer doctor thing and that couldn't find the printer. Device manager does show the printer and says it's working, but I can't do anything with it. Icon shows up in printers and devices, but does nothing.
I'm sure this is all related to my windows problem.
Still getting failed downloads on the updates - 9 times for 4015217 and 6 times for 4022715.

On another note, I have tried several times to run the DISM program. First as written, then various versions and each time I get an error code 87. Says to check the log file, but I can't find it, and search doesn't find it either. If I use the full version with the "restore health", message says it doesn't recognize health. Other times it doesn't recognize "image". I am running as admin.

Is your Printer connected via USB, have you tried a different USB cable or different USB port or both. Can you use your printer via WiFi, or connect to a USB port on the Router.

Remind us again, what version of W10 and build number are you running? (Mine is 1703 and 15063.413)
As hawk22 has suggested, if the OS can't find the Printer - your wired connection may be faulty or your Wireless connection may need troubleshooting.

My printer uses USB, don't have wi-fi. I have tried every usb plug I can find and also cables. Before I re installed the software, I un-installed the old software using REVO. This gets rid of the program, cleans the registry and cleans leftovers from the system. To make sure, I checked the registry and all Epson stuff was gone.
Re-installed from the Epson site. Device manager does show it and says it working, but I still can't print anything. Printers and devices shows an icon for it, but I can't do anything with it. I get the same results when I try to install my older HP printer. Icon shows. but can't do anything with it. During the installation, the printer is detected, but still no work.
Epson support gave me a number to talk to a live tech, but if windows isn't working right, he probably won't be much help.

My Windows version is 1607, build 1493. As long as these other issues persist, I can't update. Two updates keep installing and un-installing most every day. 4015207 and 4022715 had been in and out of my system at least 10 times in the past week. They install one day and and are gone the next. 4015217 installed/re-installed 4 times yesterday. Today it's still here, but 4022715 is now gone. Just now got a new update message.
I have tried to install windows many times and always fails. I have the ISO file on my desktop, on a disk, and on a flash drive. Last time got to about 30%, then failed. Tried with the on line installer and it got to 89% then failed. The hard part is the fact that it takes over an hour to get the fail, and I get nothing else done.

I think at this point in time, I would install a fresh copy of W10. I would save to an external drive all data I wanted from the current drive. Take a note of 3rd. party software/programs/passwords and then wipe the drive/format and install W10 fresh.
You're having trouble with Windows updates failing/not installing and troubleshooting hasn't fixed anything. Time to bite the bullet.
I had the same problem with my Windows 10 Insider Preview SSD. I had been able to install over 50 Insider updates - then the problem started. It would fail to install and kept repeat trying to no avail. I restored to a previous update and the OS worked fine but when it tried to install the new update (a week later) it ended up with the failure problem again.
I get the feeling that there is something missing from the update which causes the problem. I did not pause the updates (35 days) which may be another way to bypass this problem. Then download the next update and manually install which is an option.
I just did what I'm suggesting you do, as it's working 100% OK again.

P.S. Did you try Firmware Recovery - Recovery Mode version YEO7F8 from Epson?

I did the firmware update and no help. I do need this printer for a big job I'm working on right now. It might be easier to buy a cheap laptop and run the printer from there. This job would more than cover the cost. I'll consider both options after more coffee.
Thanks guys for all the help. I'll keep this thread open for a while in case something developes.

Before going shopping, I remembered my brother had just gotten a new laptop. I checked and he still had the old one with win 10 on it. I borrowed it and hooked it up to my Epson printer. Loaded the software and am now able to print disks. This will get me out of a big bind. So it is the Windows software causing that problem and probably the rest of the problems. One case solved. Thanks for all the help. I'll work on the other problems when I get this job finished. Problem solved for now.
