    Hi,
I miss my system info/system config from 98...but I think I have removed programs from XP somehow, just cannot remember how I did it. Specifically I want my antivirus from not booting up all the time. Is there a way or am I dreaming? aside from registry editing that is...
    Thanks
    Doc

Specific to antivirus--You have not told us what AV program you have. NortonAV offers the option to not load Auto-Protect on boot. Look under Options|AutoProtect and uncheck the box "Load AutoProtect at startup ". I'll bet other AV programs have a similar setting.
(I guess you do not have MSCONFIG in XP? I thought there was some equivalent.)

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply...I have a few other *autoload* things I don't want on bootup too, but I could swear I accessed them before I just can't for the life of me remember how I did it! SHeesh...old age already!;)

Here is a list that is helpful in Win98. Some will not apply to XP.
    .
Programs can be loaded at startup from:

    (1) the startup folders (like Start|Programs|StartUp and C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp)
    (2) Start|Run|type MSCONFIG|click OK|Startup tab
    (3) the load= and run= lines in win.ini
    (4) The Run, RunOnce, RunOnceEx,RunServices and RunServicesOnce keys under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    (5) The Run and RunOnce, RunServices and RunServicesOnce keys under
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
    (6) subkeys (Static VxDs) under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\
    (7) the [386enh] and [boot] sections of system.ini (this includes the
scrnsave.exe= line in SYSTEM.INI which can be used to run things on your
    system (like the infamous McafeeScreenScan))
    (8) the IOSUBSYS folder (drivers)
    (9) the VMM32 folder (drivers that take precedence over those built into
    VMM32.VXD
    (10) Config.sys
    (11) Autoexec.bat
    (12) Winstart.bat

Windows XP has Msconfig just like W98 had.

Start>Run, key in Msconfig and press enter. Click on the Startup tab .........

XP also has Msinfo32.exe for system info so I'm not sure what your missing from W98.
