    When I try to use 'housecall' I get the following message.

    "Trend activeupdate did not update sucessfully. It may result from busy server or bad network traffic.
    error code: 45
    error string error in prepare patch program. "

    I have used McAfee, and it reports no virus. ?????

    Maybe, as the message says, it's simply the case that Housecall's server is busy! Try again in 24 hours! In the meantime,

    here's an alternative.

    HTH.

    I still get that msg from housecall, but today, after the message appears, I get an e-mail from them saying my pc is free of virus.
    When they had time to scan I'll never know.

    The alternate you gave me worked fine. What I dont understand
    (one of several things) is when MvCafee (which I pay for) scans,
    it only scans 26083 files. Panda scanned 46121 files. Wonder why the discrepancy. Anyway, thanks for help.

    Check the options in McAfee to see what files are scanned. It is possible that system files are excluded from the scan options.

    I have gotten the same message from TrendMicro. I needed to temporarily turn off my firewall for the update (as I need to do at times with WindowsUpdate, too), but it can be turned back on for the scan. Why? No idea. There is nothing showing in the traffic log as being blocked, and my proxy shows no unusual traffic, either. Just works.

    All my scan options are checked.

    subfolders;
    all files;
    within compressed files;
    new and unknown viruses.;
