Netscape7.01 keeps taking it upon itself to change my file types. My jpeg files are supposed to open with my photoediting software but NS keeps changing it to NS! I have had to change them back constantly, but the next thing I know NS has stolen them again...Also text documents are NOT supposed to open in a browser of all places, but NS has stolen those, too. It is enough to make me get rid of the browser...too bad, as I really like it, but enough is enough!! And after numerous times of changing thewm back to the right thing I am unable to get the original icon back...it is not Netscape icon, but not the right icon either although the proper icon is shown in the file type, it is not the icon that should be displayed in my documents. What is wrong with the browser that it is fouling things up like this??

    Hi Dixie,

    Doing a little venting? ;)

I have not encountered the problem as you describe it, but I can imagine that it is very frustrating.

Have you by chance reinstalled Netscape? If so, Netscape will have taken over the files types again.

Have you tried a right click/open with, on the files in question, selecting your photo editing program, and enabling "Always use this program for this type of file "? Do the same for the text files.

    Ramona :D

    OR from Netscape 7.01,
    Edit | Preferences | Advanced | System
then onthe right panel, you will see the Windows should use Netscape to open these file types, then unselect JPEG, GIF or even PNG.

    Thanks Ramona and Anthony...

No, I didn't install NS again, just once.

I had originally unchecked all those *use NS to open* boxes..but when I went there this AM, they all had checkmarks in them again. A ghost, perhaps? I certainly didn't recheck them. It's a mystery...LOL...but if it continues I will give NS7.01 the boot and stick with NS4.7x...
But, the NS7.01 is a great browser, IMHO, but it seems to interfere wirh NS4.75 even though it is a standalone...

    Thanks for the responses...:D

NS7.01 converted profiles from NS4.75...I didn't have to make 8 new ones as they would be just like the old ones anyway...
