Hmmm... I have a quick question: How would I go about dual-booting between XP and 98SE ? (I currently run XP but have software that will only work with '98 - it won't even run in compatbility mode...)

Did you try installing the program in Compatibility Mode? That has been known to work for stubborn cases that won't run in XP Compatibility Mode. It's worth a shot before going to all the trouble of a dual boot config.

Uninstall the program, then create a shortcut to the setup.exe or whatever it has. The select properties of that shortcut and set it up for compatibility mode install. Then run the install from that shortcut.

You may find more specific instructions in the XP Help files.

    :)

Thank you :) Yes I installed the program in compatibility mode. The company's web site specifically states that the program will not run in XP (but I just had to give it a shot anyway, right?) hehehe.

    Thanks for the reply though!

OK, I had to ask. Many people aren't as aware as you seem to be.

I suppose if you really want the program, then go right ahead and install Win98. You'll have to use the Recovery Console of XP so you can run the fixboot command from a command line but other than that, you shouldn't have any problems. That's necessary since the Win98 install will mess the XP booting files up. Normally you avoid that by installing XPlast but too late for that. :)

There may be some way to fix it without the Recovery Console but I haven't heard of it yet. Perhaps someone else may drop in that knows.

    Good luck. :)

Thanks for the reply.. Yeah - I have done some research and from everything I've read, I should have installed XP last.. Ugh!! I do not want to go through all the **** of reinstalling 2 OSes again.. (I was dual-booting XP and Linux for a while, and that setup was a HELL of a lot easier than this!)

Arg -- I'm gonna have to seriously consider this before I decide to reinstall everything I own... LOL

    Thanks for the replies :)
