I have been having problems since upgrading to IE 5.5. If I leave the computer running for a while, then bring up IE, it will lock up on certain webpages. I can reboot, run it again, and then it will work fine...no lockups. But if I let it set for any length of time, it will do it again. I am running Win98 First Edition, and have done all of the critical upgrades on the Windows Upgrade site. I'm running a Pentium III 733 Mhz, 256 Meg of PC133 SDRAM memory. I didn't have this problem with IE 4.02, however at the time, I had a dialup connection. I upgraded to IE 5.5 when I got cable modem access. Originally, I thought that might be it...however, because I can reboot, and have NO problems then, I don't think that's the culprit. I thought it might be a memory problem, but my system resources rarely fall below 55%. My homepage in the browser is set to www.msn.com and the lockups seem to happen most often when I've clicked on the "My MSN" tab. I can scroll down the page, but when scrolling back, it locks up. Again, this is if the computer has been up and running for a while. If I reboot, and go right back to this, I can scroll up and down on that page without any lockups. It also happens on other webpages, but without the frequency of the "My MSN" page. I really am not sure where to look. Could this possibly be a bug in IE 5.5? Any advice is greatly appreciated...this is getting more than a bit frustrating.

Which version of IE 5.5 do you have? (see Help > About Internet Explorer).

I am using IE Version 5.50.4807.2300IC, SP2; Q306121; Q312461; Q313675 (same as litespd) on a W98SE system, Celeron 500mhz, 192MB Ram, 56K modem, etc. Have encountered no lockup problems whatsoever, except when I have done something dumb.

Stating the obvious: have you cleaned up Temp. Internet files, history, scandisked and defragged lately? Also suggest running System File Checker in case there's a damaged system file. You could also try a repair on IE.

I also don't like MSN, too much junk on the site, although when I have gone to the MSN web page have had no problems.
