I have Netscape 6.2 installed from a disk. and have it set to get mail from my ISP and to leave messages on the server. Everything was working fine then suddenly it just locked me out. Opening the mail box works but clicking on the 'get mail' button does absolutely nothing, it acts like it is broken, no error message, nothing. I checked all of the settings and they all appear to be correct. My OS is Win XP so I did a system restore to a date prior to the problem starting and everything worked perfectly, got my mail several times with no problem, well that was yesterday, today back to the same problem, 'get mail' is broke again. I use the wife's computer running Win ME and Netscape Communicator 4.7 and it gets the mail just as it should. At this point I don't know if I have a Netscape problem or a Win XP problem. I have also uninstalled 6.2 and reinstalled it and there is no change, still broke. Would appreciate some help. Remember that I am a novice when it comes to messing with the settings and detailed instructions will have to be provided, thanks, Loren

    Welcome to the Forum, Loren!

    Hi Loren,

The first thing I suggest to users who are still dealing with the obsolete, and buggy Netscape 6.x, is to upgrade to Netscape 7.01. You can download a 13.18 MB Streamline Version from SillyDog701.

Installing/uninstalling doesn't help, as the Mail is part of the Profile. When uninstalling, the Profile remains intact.

Themes seem to be the root of being completely shut out of your Mail. Have you installed a Theme other than Modern or Classic?

    Open Netscape
Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Settings | Server Settings
Remove the tick beside Empty Trash on Exit... if it is enabled

You might also try deleting the summary files in your Mail folder:
    Close Netscape
    Open Windows Explorer
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\Mail
NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

Open the Mail folder and delete the files with an MSF extension. Do NOT delete the file without the MSF extensions.
    These files will be rebuilt
    Open Netscape

Are you able to access Mail?

Let us know if you continue to have problems. If so, we can walk you through creating a new Profile.

    Ramona :D

Thanks Ramona, did dverything you suggested except--when trying to open C:\Documents and Settings..... the dumb thing says it can't find C:\Documents??
Also after doing the show hidden files and folders thing and going to the mail box, there are no new things other than what is normally there. No files with or without MSF. I spent about a half hour on the phone with a rep from the ISP trying to figure it out, including removing the current account and making a new one, still have the problem. I'm heading for SillyDog701 and am going to download 7.01 and see if that helps. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks, Loren

Downloaded version 7.01 Streamline from SillyDog701 and installed/setup. For now everything is working great, lets see what tomorrow brings. Thanks for the help Ramona, I was really getting irritated with this on again off again thing that has consumed about 2 days of trying to debug the problem. A solution to the RUN dialog box not recognizing C:\Documents as valid is to go to START/programs/accessories/system tools/windows explorer/tools/folder options/view-- the rest is there. Don't know why the C:\ thing won't go there??

Loren, you might try using quotes around the path name in your Run box.

    "C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\Mail "

Otherwise windows seems to look for c:\windows , which does not exist.
