(I don't know whether this is a hardware or software problem, but since it's related to Windows 10 then I will post it here. Admin please move to the other threads if this is a hardware-related problem)

When I plugged in my headphones into the laptop, the laptop detects the audio device and popped up the window asking which device I plugged in.

However, after I choose 'Headphones' (or any other devices), the headphone is not detected in the audio jack! There is no sound output, and 'headphones' didn't appear in the Hardware and Sound menu.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, followed every prompt shown in YouTube/other forums but no avail :(

I suspected the problem lies within the audio jack, but maybe I missed out something. Anyone, please help!

Are you certain it's the correct port? Most laptops have a Line In (for mic) and Line Out (head phones). Plugging headphones into the Line In can confuse an operating system.

Yes, there's only line out (actually a combined line-in and line-out) audio jack for my laptop.

If you connect the headphones and then rt click the Volume icon at lower right is there an option "Volume Control options "? If so, select it and see if can checkmark Headphones.

I've tried to find your Acer Laptop specs from system details and most of the Acer info shows at least 2 or 3 mini jacks on the left side front edge. My HP 1000 Notebook has 2 only mini jacks. Microphone and earphones. If I want to listen to a DVD playing, I just plug in my headset to the jack with the headphone symbol, and the laptop speakers are shut off and the sound is available from the headset/earphones as long as they are plugged in. I have no need to go into the Control Panel > Sounds > to make any changes/alterations. My Notebook is running W10 Home 64bit Version 1607 Build OS 14393.447 Audio is Realtek HD.
As Tony stated - make sure you are using the correct mini jack. Please supply your Acer model specs and country of origin so that we can ascertain what your laptop has in the way of plugs.

TonyT and retiredlearner, here's the photo of my laptop and it's pretty obvious that it has only one audio jack.

In addition, Tony, I didn't see any options on "Volume Control Options" when I right-clicked the Volume icon at the lower right. However I noticed an option called "Troubleshoot sound problems" and played with it, it just keeps changing between Microsoft HD audio and realtek audio, and none works.

My default option is Realtek Audio Manager, and it has been enabled on startup, as shown in the link.
And it's not microphone, only headphones. There's no sound output.

    Still doesn't work.
The laptop is still under warranty, hence I got the audio jack replaced.
    Problem solved.
    Thanks for helping!
