After upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10 I still prefer to use my old Win 7 desktop. I'm used to it and I cannot find a way to make custom Icons/tiles as I did in Win 7.

However when ever I cold boot and sometimes awake from a sleep, some or all the Win 7 desktop icons drop down, and sometimes randomly place themselves. On rare occasions, they all change size as well.

Easy enough to fix, but irritating that it happens so often.

    Any ideas??

    Terminator,
    Thanks.
I tried it, but it was not exactly as instructed. There was no "cisid" in the registry directory, but I did find the key by searching for the specific key.
When I deleted it, I got the message that not all elements were deleted. I deleted it again and got the message that it was not found. So maybe it is gone.
I shall report back in a week or so whether or not the problem is gone.

No joy. Cold boot this am started off with the icons properly positioned. 10 seconds into Windows coming up they almost all dropped 1 row. A few stayed put.
    Any other ideas??

They all dropped again this am. Well, the 2 that rose yesterday and were put back in place, stayed put. And 2 icons lost their image and are now solid white.
The drop occurs when Windows refreshes the desktop about 10 seconds after rebooting, if that helps.

I'm going to close this thread. Since the last Win 10 update, the problem seems to have gone away.
    Replaced by another unrelated problem.....

    Thanks,
But I like my icons set up as they are. I've had this configuration for over 5 years now with very few changes.
