Earlier today my keyboard was behaving as expected, with normal UK functionality with ", £, @ and so on via the correct keys.

Later, when composing some message text, I found the the functions had been swapped over, for example shift 2 gave @ rather than " and so on. I had not changed any settings or configurations in the meantime.

Checked everything out via Setting, (not really much help), and everything seemed to be correctly configured.

Tried a reboot and, presto, the correct key functions were restored.

Has anyone any ideas why / how this temporary glitch occurred.

After the keyboard issue had been noticed I did have a pop up notification advising me that a new feature/function was being added to Win 10, but exactly what that is or was I have no idea. I guess that the pop-up was after the event rather than before; it was not optional and was silently installed.

There was an icon in the pop-up that is exactly the same as that on the Settings ... Time and Language link so I assume that this was the area being "updated ".

Looking at the page I see two entries, under "Region & Language ", (the actual page has the heading "Country or Region ", rather counter-intuitive):

"English (United Kingdom) Language pack available ", but no idea what that is or if it is even necessary

"English (United States) Windows dislay language ". Again no idea of this content,

    Any ideas?

Sounds like it was the update... Unless it happens over and over - I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it.

It always amazes me the number of things that get fixed by a reboot.

Just had cumulative updates installed on my HP Notebook and after restart and settle down - a further message informed me that further additions were being made. These were English (GB) optical language packs. These were carried out in Settings > Time and Language. May be the reason you had a hiccup in your typing. Looks like all my comps are getting the same Language Pack updates.

Yes, looks like the reboot resolved the issue. Trivial really, but irritating nonetheless.

Amazing how many things are fixed by a simple reboot; anything with an embedded chip. Sat nav, microwave ovens, satellite receivers, telephones, and so on and so on.

Aha! Brilliant suggestion. Using a compact Dell keyboard (KM713), so the Shift + Alt could have easily been pressed when attempting upper-case c, for example.

Never happened before, but is a much more logical answer than blaming the update. Just coincidental that both occurred at about the same time.

Many thanks for the heads up!
