Every time I am online and try to open something in a new window, it will open and remain blank, doesnt do a thing..as long as it opens in the first original window that was used to connect to the net you can continue browsing, but it has to open in the same window. I havent installed any new software and I really have no idea what I could do to resolve the problem and could use all the advice I can get,

    Thanx, born

On the browser toolbar, click Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Restore Defaults > OK > and see if that helps. Chicken soup, can't hurt.

I tried the toolbar trick there and still came up blank, maybe I can add a little more. It seems the link that is to open in the new won't,, there is no address in the address bar, at the top of the window all it says is " Microsoft Windows Explorer ", and it seems besides the boarders, address bar, and the toolbars, the body remains transparent no matter how long I leave it open for. But if I hit the home button, something out of the favorites, or type something in the address bar it will go there. If it is like the links address doesnt tranfer to the new page when it is open. I sure hope this will help you help me, Its a terrible thing.

Too bad that didn't help. Well, you'll have to exhaust all the easy ways before resorting to violence.

Check your Security setting in the browser and reset to default if in doubt.

Do you have any pop-up stopper program running? If so, disable it. Along that same line, boot to Safe Mode and see if the problem persists.

Then try repairing the IE browser by going to Control Panel > Add/remove Programs and selecting to uninstall/repair the IE browser and OE.

Then it'll come down to uninstalling and reinstalling the browser. Save that for last of course. :)

Go to it and post back your results.

    :)

Im back again, I tried the repair and had no luck,I then reinstalled IE 6 and still no diff. I also tried running and Adware program and scandisk hoping for anything but getting nothing, the new page won't open, just remains blank with the hourglass. Zephyr the only one I didnt try is the safe mode, sorry but Im not sure how to enter it, I know what you mean just not sure about how to go about it.
I also tried the link Zander posted but the destination is not found, must be an error with the link? not to sure, maybe someone can let me know if it works for them. thanks again, born

Hmmm. The link works fine for me. Perhaps it not working for you a result of your problem. Try copying and pasting or else type the following addresses into your address bar.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q281679

    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Ope...Q_20321481.html

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13233

    http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers2.htm#blank_windows

If you click on any of the links on these pages and they don't work you can right click on the link, choose properties and you can see the address of the link and from there you can copy and paste or type the link into your address bar.

fwiw, when i was having browser window probs (and a few other browser-related difficulties), i uninstalled ie6.0 and went back to ie5.5.

i must say, doing so immediately fixed most of the probs and then, oddly, eventually fixed the others.

you might give it a try

    good luck

    :)

Well, now that I look at the addresses, they probably aren't going to work right if you type them as they are. You'll probably have to right click on each one, and choose properties in order to see the entire (correct) address.

Thanks Mr Mark for your suggestion, I guess I should have mentioned that when I unistalled IE6 I was then back to my original, 5.5. I was still having the same trouble when tring to download IE6 from microsoft, tried a few right clicks>open in a new window, with no luck.
    thanks

just so i'll understand, are you saying you had ie5.5 back on your machine again briefly, but then went back to ie6.0? like you had ie6.0, then ie5.5 briefly, then back to ie6.0?

cause if you only had ie5.5 briefly, you may not have updated it to SP2.

    that might make a difference.

it has been suggested to me that ie6.0, SP1 needs several shots at installing properly, but it never did give me flawless performance, like ie5.5, SP2 is doing now.

as a side note, these issues i'm referring to are on my win2000pro machine. on my winxp home pc, ie6.0, SP1 is chugging right along smartly.

    again, fwiw...

I have to ask too. Was it by any chance Oleaut32.dll? Just curious (I've seen this a bit lately and was wondering).

    The answer is...

Guys, you wouldn't believe how easy to solve this problem is...

If you have this problem with the window which won't open and remain stuck, I guess you had problems with the FIND (Ctrl+f) service too.

The problem is a problem with the RPC stub (incompatible), which is caused by a recently modified OLEAUT32.DLL in the system folder.

Some of the programs we install alters the file or appends information to it, and by this causing troubles to IE new versions.

What you need to do if this problem reoccurs, is simple:
just grab a fresh copy of OLEAUT32.DLL from the windows cd,
from the WIN98_39 cabinet using winzip or whatever.

    Good Luck in the future!!!

    fixed my hanging window too...thanks

    Hi guys....

I just joined this forum tonight to search for any ideas on how to fix the 'hanging' window problem in IE.....about a week ago this problem started while using IE 5.5.....I downloaded the new IE6 and found I still had the problem.....

I found this thread on my first search and was happy to see there might be a solution....and you all were right on....the Oleuat32.dll file had been 'updated' by something on my PC....

I went back and replaced the updated dll with the Oleuat32.dll on the Windows install disc.....VOILLA ....no more hanging window.

A big thank you to all for identifying the issue and how easy it was to fix.....

    :D
    regards
