I have deliberately set Windows 10 Autoplay to open File Explorer whenever I connect a USB device to my PC e.g. my backup drive which I swap every week or so. However I find with Windows 10 that when I wake the machine from sleep and log back in to my userid, explorer is launched again for these devices. This did not happen for me with previous versions of Windows (Vista, 8/8.1).
PS: It's an annoyance rather than causing any real problem.

Is there any way to stop this behaviour? What I want is for Explorer to launch each time I plug it in i.e. I initially connect it to my PC, but not when it's already been connected and Windows has just come out of sleep mode.
Or is this a behaviour I just have to put up with due to choosing "Open folder to view files (File Explorer)" in AutoPlay for removable USB drives?

    Thanks.

Check advanced power mgmt. options, or if your comp came with a branded power mgmt facility such as with Acer, Asus, HP, etc.

Sorry, don't understand what I should be looking for. There is no branded power management that I can see. Everything seems to set with a reasonable value including what I'd think are irrelevant (hard disk, IE, desktop background settings, Processor power Management, Display, Multimedia settings etc). WRT to my problem the sleep timings are what I want & USB settings [selective suspend enabled]. Allow wake timers is enabled, but that doesn't seem to imply anything about "explore USB drives when waking up ".

Hi Ludwig, Have you tried the setting > Choose what to do with each type of media? I was wondering if mixed content was worth a try. Let's know if that opens File Explorer when waking from sleep.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that (setting it explicitly for each option ie mixed content etc) .. now everything is behaving, even after setting it back to what I originally had ( "open ... (file explorer) ")! When machine comes out of sleep it no longer launches file explorer, yay!
Thanks for the suggestion, no idea why it seems to have fixed itself.

I've now marked the problem 'solved'.
