I cannot get my speakers to work. I have an MSI MS-7681 motherboard with Realtek High Definition audio built in. I downloaded the latest driver, which is supposed to be W10 compatible (Ver 6.0.1.7541 6/18/2015). When I go to control panel>hardware & sound>manage audio devices>speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio>configure>test, I can hear all (7.1) the speakers just fine, yet I cannot hear music, computer sounds, internet video sounds, or anything else. Help! If I go to device manager>audio inputs & outputs>Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)>properties>driver, I see that Microsoft 10.0.10586.0 is installed. For some reason, I cannot get the actual Realtek driver to install.
I opened a repair ticket with MSI, but their reply was to be sure the speakers were chosen as the default. o_O So much for MSI support.
I have looked at many "no sound" threads, but have not found anything that helps. Looking for suggestions before I give up and go buy a Sound Blaster audio card.

Hi SCFrance, In Device manager > is Realtek shown to be working OK? Have you tried the Update driver from Device Manager? Have you run you MSI board CD software program? In Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Select Speakers (check) > configure > Test > Properties > Advanced > Expand Default Format > ( mine works best on 24bit, 48000Hz (Studio quality) ). Neil.

Realtek working OK...I can even run the test OK. When I try to update the driver it tells me the driver I have is the best (not those exact words). I ran the CD from the default and by drilling down to the sound drivers and installing from there. Mine is set on the 24 bit, 48000Hz, but the test button that is there yields nothing. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to hear anything of if it's just some software check.//Steve

I get a musical tinkle twice when Test is clicked in Default Format. You may have to visit Realtek for W10 latest drivers and Download to Desktop - then use option to install manually. The message you are getting will be that MS has decided that their installed drivers are installed and working OK.

I went to Realtek to give that a try, but found they don't have the drivers just hanging out there...you have to run an exe file, which installs the drivers. Then I went to control panel>hardware & sound>manage audio devices>speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio>properties>Properties(in controller info)>driver>driver details, I find that the Realtek driver IS installed, so it appears that the driver is not “driving”...or is not compatible with W10 (although it says that it is). This is beginning to feel like beating a dead horse. If no one can come up with anything soon, I’m going to try installing a SoundBlaster Audigy board I have and see if I have any better luck.

I gave up trying to get my motherboard sound system to work and added a SoundBlaster Audigy board I had purchased years ago but never used. Everything is good now. Pity I had to use my last card slot to fix the problem, but I had no plans for that slot anyway.
