    FAQ
Have a look here as there appears to be a problem with W10 operation. Neil.

Neil, appears to be recognised in Device Manager and showing to be working properly. Some of the time it opens after a longish wait, plays some of the material stored on the DVD, but later just freezes with no further responses from the mouse presses. It shows that the DVD/CD player can respond when conditions warrant, but what is the main fault and can it be solved. Bobby.

Neil, DVD/CD played photos for a few minutes today but finished "freeze ". I read through the FAQ, but nothing seems to cover my problem. I have taken the opportunity in to e-mail ODD.support@liteon.com, requesting their help or if any software is available, will await for a reply. Device Manager shows the DVD/CD as ATAPl iHAS324 F and says working properly. Bobby.

Seems strange that a new DVD player won't operate, as MS OS's usually have the generic drivers for them to operate with. The CD that accompanies the new DVD player usually has only software for the likes of Nero/Power2Go or other brands. My Asus DVD SATA unit was just install and use. I use VLC and ISO burner rather than install Nero and it's bloatware. Have you got the latest VLC version installed? It sounds as though you have a connection problem. Have you pushed the cable connectors firmly into place and not disturbed any other connections?

Yes the cables all appear to be correctly connected. Why does the DVD/CD player sometime works for a few minutes then just a black screen or a freeze. I use entirely VLC for my screening of DVD etc. Having said that, Windows Player takes over with no warning or indeed request to do so. Win aliens have taken over, me think. Bobby.

To ensure without a doubt, my wife who has much nimbler fingers than me, checked the four cable connectors, they were all seated properly and secure. Startup of photo CD took some time to install and each photo there after takes over three minutes to change to the next photo, but at intervals quicker. Now I know that the new DVD/CD player is working and probably the original DVD/CD player is still playable. I have turned off the Auto play. Is there anything in VLC to change? VLC is set as Default. Bobby.

DVD/CD player in question is LiteOn. After much trial and error, drive responds after several minutes on inserting a DVD/CD-RW, again after a few more minutes, content is displayed on the screen. Clicking file (photo), then selecting film show, a few minutes later photo appear, it repeat at intervals of a few seconds for the first four photos but increasing in time lapses, where it becomes rather annoying at time taken to view remaining 20 or more photos saved on disc. At least at present, some response is had from the LiteOn. Probably this is the best that I can expect, unless one of our members has the or some solution. Thanks, Bobby.

Bobby, you are using W10? Right click Start > Control panel > Default Programs > Change AutoPlay Settings > Check (tick) Use AutoPlay for all media & devices. See if that helps.

retiredlearner, thanks for your response. Checked the settings and found that "AutoPlay" was ticked and I also checked that "VLCPlayer" was selected for all media & devices. The settings were set for VLC several weeks ago, but todays check, that they were not, again they have been entered as default. Now for the good news, photos play back as normal and DVD Films not in all cases also play. I must say that I do not like Win 10 in its present form, each day at boot up, guarantees that at least one error will arise. MS wanted at all cost that every computer running Windows must change over to their Win 10. I did so why all the inconvenience? It is now hoped, that DVD/CD is now working and permanently. Bobby.

Tried to run a Video film as previous, however it again fails to open. DVD/CD shows with a Video inserted (Valkyrie title) as o bytes 7.16GB Playlist 00.00. After several minutes, opens VLC window, no response. Drive LED flashes on/off but no other response.

I have no problems that are daily or recurring. I put in a dozen CD's (which had been burned using XP) with Family photos and Holiday photos etc.just to see if there was any problem. They all played without hassle in W10 Pro. And to be sure I'm playing the DVD of James Bond Spectre - no problems. I really can't suggest any more as my W10 PC's and Notebook are operating trouble free. Neil.

I have carried out all suggestions. Device Manager shows DVD/CD player and yellow mark is not present. Why of why is it shows both DVD photos and movies, next time all is lost. Defaults are set for VLC. Films save on HD are ok and play, however play persists in playing with in 10 with TV & Player until manually changed to VLC. Bobby.

If you set Windows Media Player as default does the drive perform as expected?

Tried Media Player set as Default, film started after very long wait, but starts/stopped or could say stuttered. Part showing the time remaining (normally green is orange) As said previously only one occasion did this film play entire length. In Apps & Features shows that VLC is "unavailable ". In Devices > AutoPlay - Memory card set to Play video files (VideoLan VLC Media Play), is this correct? Bobby

Start > Settings > System > Default apps > Video Player > click on VLC to make it Default > Close out - DO NOT Reset!

Not right and equally well not wrong - basically your choice from the drop down list. If all you use a memory card for is video files then your choice is fine. I prefer 'Open folder to view files(File Explorer)', but I only use memory cards from my cameras and that view is fine to copy files to my hard drive.

Pete c, memory card is solely used for my camera as in your case. I will change the setting to File Explorer. I wonder why it says VLC is unavailable? There must be a setting in my computer or Win 10 preventing DVD/CD drive from functioning. Reading this weeks magazine, appears that Win 10 update change of mind 30 days is now 10 days.
