    Hi,

I am having problem with my sound driver. When I installed XP,
my sound driver Xwave qs3000a doesn't work with my sound card
yamaha xg 123 pci anymore. I don't know which one I should install or upgrade to get my computer sound output. Right now,
I don't have any sound output from my computer. Not even a system sound.

Any help is help and I will really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

    Hi again van Charlie
Thank you for the note. If it's alright, I'll post it here, so that others can also learn from your post?
Open your Control Panel (click Start, then pick Settings then Control Panel). Double click the System icon and choose the Device Manager tab. Find the device for which you want to update the driver. Click the plus sign (+) next to the various categories click on the device you want to update, and then click on "Properties" and the "Driver" tab.

Then click the "Update Driver" button. A dialog box will walk you through the process. Choose "Display a list of drivers..." then choose the "Have Disk" button and use the dialog box to find the "driver files" folder you created. (The ones you unzipped)Choose the ".INF" file in that folder and click OK. The system will update the appropriate driver. If there is more than one .INF file then try each one until you get a successful install. Finally, reboot your machine so that the new driver can take effect.

    Hi Daizy,

Thank you so much for your help. But I have to admit that I am still stuck with this sound driver problem.

When I tried to install the downloaded driver from the unzipped folder I got a long message saying that "QS 3000A Audio PCI" sound card has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatability with Win XP. Continuing or installagion of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed windows logo testing.

Shall I continue? I am not sure at this point. And I did try to contact yamaha but never got a reply yet so far.

Would you please give me an advice how to proceed with this matter?

    Thanks.

    Hmmmmmmm. Well, hmmmmm.
What if you were to go into your device manager, remove it, and let windows re-detect it?
    Try that and post back?

If you do install untested stuff on XP and your system goes seriously bad, you might have big problems.

Don't know how much you've searched for XP-friendly drivers but it would certainly be worth trying. But the reality is, some hardware just won't run on XP.

For this particular issue, you might do better on a forum that deals more with sounds and sound stuff. That can be a pretty specialized area and we may just not have any specialists posting on here.

I tried to do it from Device Manager by "found new hardware" and install from the folder(unzipped folder). But I got the same result: fail the compatibility test.

My question now is why some of those people from driverguide said they could install from the file posted there? I guess they used the same sound card. Didn't they?

No idea why some folks said they had luck with it. Could be they were on different hardware and somehow it liked the card+driver well enough to let it run. Or maybe they weren't using the exact same card you are.

In any event, if it were my PC, I'd opt to buy a new, XP-friendly sound card at this point.
