I thought VLC player was set as default, find on playing a video it opens what appear to be a Windows 10 player, certainly not VLC player. Can this be rectified? Thanks.

Not sure about Windows 10, but in Windows 8 > Control Panel > Default Programs > Set your default programs > Select VLC in the list > Choose defaults for this program > select all of them.

Thank you for responses. I tried out as pointed out, but VLC player is not playing when a video is clicked. Refers back to Win 10 Player and plays the selected Video..

Try this approach by setting the file association - mpeg to VLC .......

Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol to a program > Scroll down to the file extension, e.g. mpeg and click on Change Program. Select VLC player and OK out.

Pete, checking find that VLC is installed. In Apps & Features, VLC is shown as unavailable. In Defaults VLC is shown.

I have again un- and reinstalled VLC using your VLC Media Player, result again showing VLC as unavailable in Win 10 Apps & Features.

Under Settings & Applications, lists quotes all applications available - VLC quotes as "Unavailable and the date 3/8/2016" when VLC was installed by me. VLC appears to be installed as clicking the required Video Tile and right clicking select "Open With" choosing VLC, plays with VLC. I would certainly prefer if the VLC was present in S & A and open the file automatically. There are a few other things in Win 10 as not corresponding with the DVD/CD player, making me wish in sticking with Win 7.

Mine works OK. In Settings > System > Default Apps > Video Player > VLC is the Default. I just put a James Bond DVD (Skyfall) in my DVD drive and request pops up in Right lower area of screen > click on that and Menu pops up in upper right of screen > Select Play with VLC and hey presto Skyfall starts. VLC tells me there is a newer version available - do I want to install - not now, and the DVD plays 100% OK. Neil.

Neil, it must be my new DVD/CD-RW at fault. I replaced the original DVD/CD as it was believed to be faulty. New drive light appears on inserting a DVD but refuses any further action. Win 10 has certainly made life anything but easy or computer lost without Win 7.
