    Device Manager - no dvd.jpg

I have only just realised that its missing when I tried to install a new scanner from a disc and the drive doesn't even power up.

It's definitely a Windows 10 problem as I tried a Linux boot disk and the drive works fine with that.

How likely is it that my drive just won't be able to work under W10, even with upgraded drivers?

I'm having a nightmare where I have to completely dismantle my PC to get at the DVD drive to find out its make and model etc to be able to find new drivers, but I don't know if that will make it work in Win10 either!

    Hi Terri. Try this fix.

    1. Click Start< type Command Prompt in the Start search box and then right click on Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator.

    2. Copy/type the following command and hit enter:

    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

    3. After the command has been entered, close the Command Prompt window and reboot the computer.

Oh Evan, you are my new hero. Thank you so much. Yes it works now. I feel like crying with relief.

I really think you should work as a Support Professional for Microsoft, oh wait a minute, you already are.

Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. I am lost for words. I have a huge grin on my face to rival the Chesire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.

    Did I say thank you?

Thanks Evan. Couldn't remember this reg. fix. Maybe it will work on the HP that this is happening to.
