I've just upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop in order to test the new system before upgrading my desktop pc and am quite happy with it thus far. One irritating problem is the spinning circle which occurs, for example, when I R-click on the laptop screen to open a pop-up box in order to choose 'refresh'. A spinning circle begins as if it's waiting for something to start or open. The box doesn't appear for quite a while and sometimes not at all and the circle continues to spin. The issue also occurs when I L-click on a program's screen icon, though the spinning is relatively brief. Would anyone have any idea what's the cause of this issue? Thanks.

That would indicate that you have programs working in the background. Have a look in Task Manager to see what's hogging resources. Neil.

In Task Manager there is nothing hogging resources. The totals there are: CPU 1%, Memory 15%, Disk 0%, Net 0%.

When I turn the laptop on I wait quite a while until everything has loaded and settled down. If I then R-click on the screen a spinning circle starts and continues for as long as a several minutes, disabling the cursor while it's spinning and preventing me from doing anything on the computer. If I plug in a usb stick the cursor arrow will appear inside the window which that opens up, but when I move the cursor outside the usb box it returns to being a spinning circle. Very frustrating as you can imagine.

Thanks for that, Evan. I performed the clean boot and did as directed. I then restarted the laptop and tried r-clicking on the screen again. I'm delighted to say that the problem was no longer evident. No spinning circle when clicking on desktop icons either. An instant response in both cases,

I checked out the list of disabled startup programs and made a screenshot (attached). What procedure would you suggest in choosing which ones to enable again?

    Thanks again. ;)

Please follow step #23 in my guide and post a screenshot of the Autoruns Logon tab here in your next reply.

In Autoruns, remove the following items:

    ETD Control Center
    HotKeysCmds
    IgfxTray
    Persistance
    Realtek HD Audio Manager
    Cyberlink MediaLibrary Server
    Media+Player RC Service
    Java Update Scheduler
    Native Host for Apps
    CCleaner (Both Entries)
    Microsoft OneDrive
    Windows Mail (Both Entries)
    The item highlighted in yellow
    Google Chrome

You should also completely remove Java from your machine if you don't need it as its a security risk keeping it installed.

After those steps are done, reboot the computer and let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks for that. Just a question or two.

Did you mean untick the items in Autoruns Logon or totally eliminate the entries?

ETD Control Centre application is a touchpad solution for notebooks. It enables the user the possibility to use multi-finger moves on the touch pad in a very similar way as in the smartphones screen. Since I'm on a laptop (testing out Windows 10 before installing it on my desktop) should I leave this item untouched?

Yes you can leave the ETD Control Center entry enabled. When I say remove the items I mean actually delete them not just untick the checkbox in Autoruns.

Below see the updated Autoruns Logon and the Old Logons. Do things look alright?

The laptop seems to be running well. I'll take note if anything unusual occurs in the meantime. Thanks again, Evan. ;)

I don't know if it's appropriate to post this here or whether I should start a new thread, but since it's related to your advice above I was wondering, Evan, if you could suggest from the attached which logon entries I should delete. It's from my desktop computer which seems to take an inordinate length of time to boot up. Let me know if I should start a new thread instead. Thanks.

I've created a new thread to deal with the content of the reply just above this one. ;)
