My C drive was created as a dynamic drive (have no idea how that happened).
All other self-created partitions was also assigned as dynamic. I got rid of them
    , no problem.

But how can i delete the C dynamic partition?

I cannot format, delete, or diskpart C via the system. A re-install will let me
delete the win10 data (format is greyed out) but then it retains the dynamic
    layout.

I want to go to a basic disk format. I'm sure there is a way to do this. I just
haven't found the right steps to do it yet.

    thanks,
    clif

    Hi Clif,

    • Back up all volumes on the disk you want to convert from dynamic to basic (if you want to be able to restore your data).
    • In Disk Management, right-click each volume on the dynamic disk you want to convert to a basic disk, and then click Delete Volume for each volume on the disk.
    • When all volumes on the disk have been deleted, right-click the disk, and then click Convert to Basic Disk.
Note that the disk must not have any volumes nor contain any data before you can change it back to a basic disk.

    Arie,

    Thanks for fast response!

System won't let me delete the C volume so i cannot empty the whole disk.

I removed all except C volume. Cannot find a way to let me delete "C ".
So, of course, when i right-click on Disk0 all the convert options are greyed-
    out.

Under win 7/8/81, i had more than 4 partitions. If win10 sees more than 4
during an install, it auto goes to dynamic disk format?

Still looking for the right way to do this.

Yea, of course you can't ;)

You can't delete the OS by using the OS, so You'll have to hook up the drive to another PC, or use a 3rd party tool.

Why do you want to convert it to basic when it probably just fine like it is?

    Steve,

    A good question(let sleeping dogs lie) :)

I started seeing what appeared to be multiple volumes with the same name
but could only access 1 of them. Don't think it was a RAID config but i know
    very little about RAID.

Anyway, I'm back to a basic disk config now, thanks to Arie.

Wonder why the restriction of only 4 partitions? Cannot find anything about
an extended partition yet. Win7/8 i had 6 partitions. I'll keep looking for
extended but nothing shows on screen about creating one.

A bit of good news tho! Was able to finally get around the "Local Session
Manager" problem with a new OS update, build 10586.280 fixed it.

    thanks for all the help,
    clif

    Follow up:

Appears like logical partitions can only be created after the 4th primary partition.

So, create the 4th partition using whatever space is needed and the remainder
(not used) is turned into free space for logical partitions are needed. At least
that is my understanding of it.

    See: http://www.disk-partition.com/articles/create-more-than-4-partitions-4348.html

    thanks for the help,
    clif

PS will mark this as resolved.
