I have recently wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 98. As a result, I have spent some time reestablishing the settings for many areas of my PC. So.......where are the settings that will allow me to remove the 'Confirmation Prompts' that pop up EVERYTIME I move or rename a file. They are so annoying and I will be ever so grateful to be rid of them.

In addition, my power management device is not working. When I Shut Down I will only be taken to the 'It is now safe to turn off your computer' screen whereas before the power was turned off automatically. I understand this may be in the BIOS????? Is there a fix.....

    Thnx

    Turn off confirmation

At the top of this page, drop down list under "Windows Help.net" Click on win98 and follow links for a lot of tweaking.

Control Panel>Power Management>Advanced tab. Drop down and choose Shutdown. Start>Help>Troubleshooting follow the prompts.

    No Joy?..Post back.

Thx for the reply.....Already went through all the posts in Win 98 and there was nothing about shutting off the prompts.

As for going to the Control Panel/Power Management/Advanced, already had gone there however the only item it contains is a check box to display the power meter in the task bar.

Any other ideas. I had already looked at the rather extensive info on power problems for 98 SE. I do not have SE thus thought I would get input to make sure there wasn't something much more simpler first:)

    Hey beamuse

Did you click on the first link of my post? It shows how to go to the recycle bin and turn off confirmation window.:)

Do you have all the windows updates done for Win98FE? When you reinstall, you have to go to the windows update page and redo them also.

    Morning Bmoore!

I did check the link however the recycle bin prompt is not the problem. I get an 'are you sure' prompt whenever I rename or move a file. Very annoying! I know it is some stupid little setting somewhere.....but where. I tried turning off the prompt in recycle to see if it would affect the others - no joy.....

Yes, when I reinstalled, that was the first thing I did was do the windows update thing.

As for my power management problem - well, if I don't get a quick fix.....I will have to go for the lengthy stuff - ugh!

    Thx for the input
    Have a great day
