I've been happy with XP & Outlook Express (NOW OE6) for years but recently something has changed. All e-mails to colleagues, etc, for the last six weeks have been unreadable by them. What they receive is a string of obscure characters, including the word "MIME" so I guess some setting has changed but which one?
    I'm flummoxed! Please help.

    lox.

If you installed and are using some wild and funky "font" that could cause it. They would have to install the same thing or you change back.

You could be infected. XP is very vulnerable and dangerous to use when accessing the internet.

Hi lordoxford, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :) You are way behind the times. XP and OE6. May be this might help: "An Outlook Express basic repair kit "

I sincerely hope you have SP3 and all available updates installed and a good AV program in use when you venture out in the nasty web space. Neil.
